Warzone 2100 v3.4.0 is now on Steam and is free - freegame
(hx) 11:20 AM CEST - Jul,12 2020
The wz2100.net version 3.4.0 has been released on Steam. This release is not officially supported by the dev team from wz2100.net but is provided here for ease of access. If you wish to remain on the 3.3.0 build then this can be selected from the "BETAS" tab in the Warzone 2100 properties. Saved games from 3.3.0 are not compatible with 3.4.0. Warzone 2100 is a real-time strategy game, originally developed by Pumpkin Studios and published by Eidos Interactive, now developed by the Warzone 2100 Project. Compared to other real-time strategy games, it has a greater focus on artillery, radar, and counter-battery technologies, more frequent in-game cinematic updates as game play progresses, a massive research tree, as well as a vehicle design system.

This is one of the most unique and in depth RTS games ever made. Even after all these years it's still fun! A command unit that creates and single-click-to-select group, which you can assign factories to produce for, which the units under its command will automatically go get healed then return to the commander, which gives everyone a buff under its command! The veterancy makes the commander so useful, and the fact that you can recycle a veteran unit, and the next (upgraded) unit you produce will get that same rank. Such cool features.

Whooaa brings back memories.. yeah I remember all the customized vehicles and buildings.. played so many hours on that one. Very fun for its time but, obviously, looks quite dated.

Being free is not an excuse for low quality.

1999? I don't remember this one.
I remember War Inc. (from 1997) and M.A.X. (from 1998) for customized vehicles, but not this one.
1999 is the year I moved abroad, I might have missed a few that year.

Yeah I understand mate. I've missed many games between 1995-1998 ..as fulltime programmer I decided to skip all games for some time.

Back in 1998, it was exceptionally good RTS game. Although comparable to other 3D RTS games such as Total Annihilation or Earth 2150, it contained some features that were unique: including various radar technologies, a greater focus on artillery and counter-battery technologies, and, most notably, the ability for players to design their own vehicles.

Original developers Pumpkin Studios released the source code in 2004 and a fan community has kept the game alive and in development ever since… culminating in a release on Steam. The campaign story of the game is fully playable, following the story of an organization seeking to rebuild human civilization after a nuclear holocaust in the late 21st century. It is delightfully dated. The multiplayer and skirmish modes are also fully functional.

Yeah it looks old/dates, but it's still damn fucking playable and enjoyable for me. Sure would be cool to see this game in better graphics. But for now I'm happy be able to play it on my PC :-)
