AMD Ryzen 9 3900: A 12-Core 65W CPU Listed - tech|
| (hx) 07:08 PM CEST - Sep,29 2019 | A motherboard maker has added support for AMD's yet-to-be-announced Ryzen 9 3900 CPU. The product will be one of the industry’s first 12-core CPU featuring a mainstream TDP of 65 W. In addition, the same manufacturer revealed that there is a Pro version of the said CPU incoming. Biostar's X470NH motherboard recently gained support for AMD's yet-to-be-announced Ryzen 9 3900 CPU with a 65 W TDP, which may indicate that the launch of the unit is imminent. This is not the first time an unannounced CPU has been listed in a CPU validation list. As a second source, the processor was listed in Eurasian Economic Union’s index of crypto-capable devices as a 'twelve-core microprocessor'. Based on the information provided by the sources, AMD’s Ryzen 9 3900 is a 12-core CPU with SMT that operates at 3.1 GHz default frequency (and presumably featuring a 4.2 GHz maximum turbo frequency from a 3DMark listing) and a 65 W TDP. The relatively low thermal envelope makes the Ryzen 9 3900 compatible with mainstream motherboards and cooling systems and enables PC makers to build relatively small computers featuring a 12-core processor. Meanwhile, the Ryzen 9 Pro 3900 adds various security technologies, enterprise management, and reliability enhancements for business and corporate computers. It is unclear when exactly AMD plans to introduce its 12-core Ryzen 9 3900 and Ryzen 9 Pro 3900 processors and how much will they cost, yet it is reasonable to think that both products will be available in the near future.
In other news, AMD’s Ryzen 9 3900X CPU which currently reigns supreme as the flagship offering of the 3rd Gen Ryzen lineup is facing a severe shortage across the globe and in all major retail outlets. The 12 core chip launched back in July at an introductory price of $499 US but you’d be lucky if you can find it now & for the same price. Now three months after the launch of the processor, it faces an incredible shortage throughout the globe. Just going through major retailers, the chip is now selling for $799.99 US on Newegg, $829.99 US on Amazon and $799.99 US (plus $222.03 Additional Costs) on eBay. The chip was selling for a lower price on Micro Center but is no longer available and same is the case with the renowned German retailer, MindFactory, who don’t have the chip available anymore. There’s also a 1-2 week shipping delay depending on the retailer you get the product from. |

I have a 65W TPD chip, that drops boost clocks way down after 1 minute of CPU extensive load. So in reality, it's not 4GHz, it's 3.5 on average. Unless I go to Bios and set new TDP of 120W then it's 4GHz cpu all the time under load.
My point is: take these TDP marketing values with a grain of salt and lawsuit ready. | |
