TechNews - PC Gaming More Profitable Than Console - briefly|
| (hx) 07:48 PM CEST - Apr,30 2016 |
- PC Gaming Remains More Profitable Than Console Gaming,
Mobile
Gaming Surpasses Everything - PC gaming will generate almost $32 billion while PC gaming will
grow to $29.0 billion. On the other hand, mobile gaming (smartphones
and tablets) is expected to generate $36.9 billion.

- Seagate Begins Shipping Helium-Filled HDDs, Reveals Final
Specs - According to Seagate, helium has allowed the company to substantially
increase hard drive capacity and lower power consumption while using
current magnetic recording technologies. The Seagate Enterprise
Capacity 3.5 helium-filled hard drive
is based on the company's brand-new hermetically-sealed platform
feature fourteen heads and seven perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR)
platters with up to 1.43 TB capacity each. Seagate claims that the new
HDD platform is based on a special wide-weld hermetically sealed drive
enclosure with a design based on a multi-step forging process. Besides,
it uses a motor attached to both top and bottom covers, in order to
better handle vibrations and maximize reliability. Sensors for
humidity, temperature and helium pressure ensure that the helium-filled
drive is always being monitored for reliable operation.
- Gmail for Android Gains Microsoft Exchange Support - Google
today said the global Android Gmail app is set to add support for
Microsoft Exchange. "Whether you're on Google Apps or Exchange, you can
use the Gmail app on any Android device to send and receive mail," said
Google in a blog post. Gmail will also be able to support
Exchange-based calendars. Gmail has long supported the IMAP and POP
email protocols, including Microsoft's Outlook and Hotmail services.
Google added Exchange to Gmail back in November 2014, but only Nexus
handsets running Lollipop had access to the feature. Providing Exchange
support to all Android users is a big win for businesses that rely on
Microsoft's email management product. Google says the updated app will
be made available from the Google Play Store over the next few days.
- Facebook Bug Allowed Attackers to Take Over Accounts on
Other
Sites - This
"bug" seems like a pretty damn big oversight on Facebook's part. I
can' t believe it is as simple as creating a Facebook profile with the
victim's email address, adding a malicious email as the secondary, and
then confirm the account using the bad email address. Bitdefender has
identified a flaw in Facebook's account registration process which
indirectly led to situations where attackers could take over user
profiles on sites where Facebook Social Login feature was enabled. The
vulnerability could be used if an attacker discovered that a victim had
an email address which he used on a regular basis, but had not
registered on Facebook to create an account.
- Cortana Will Now Only Work With Edge And Bing On Windows 10
- As
Microsoft has frequently pointed out in the past, one of Cortana's key advantages is the assistant's
ability to 'get to know you', providing a more personalized
experience in its OS. This only really works as a result of Cortana's
integration with Microsoft's apps and services, providing an
"end-to-end personal search experience" that improves the more you use
it. Cortana is powered by Microsoft's Bing search engine, and the
company's ability to provide that personalization depends upon that
integration. But Microsoft said today that that experience is being
undermined by third parties replacing Bing as the search provider, and
Edge as the web browser that works with Cortana.
- FBI won't reveal how it unlocked the San Bernardino iPhone
- The
FBI has decided that it
doesn't need to reveal how it unlocked
the San Bernardino iPhone, which will prevent Apple from identifying
the security vulnerability and closing it through a software update.
Under a rule brought in by the US government in 2010 called the
'Vulnerabilities Equities Process', government agencies like the FBI
have to disclose any back doors or flaws in technology that they
discover. The idea is that these vulnerabilities would be disclosed in
private to the companies who make the products, provided the National
Security Council gives the all clear, allowing them to fix the issue
and keep Americans safe.
- I installed Windows 95 on my Apple Watch - With a
520 MHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage, the
Apple Watch packs a lot of computing horsepower into a very small
package. On paper, its processor alone is about twenty-five times
faster than the average 386, and 512 MB was the size of a hard drive in
the mid nineties, not memory. As a result, I was feeling confident that
the Apple Watch had the ability to run one of the most revered desktop
operating systems Redmond has ever produced.

- MODE Bands for Android Wear Are Easy to Swap - Google has
introduced what it calls MODE watch bands for Android Wear devices
created with help from b&nd by Hadley Roma. The bands feature a
snap-and-swap switch where they connect to the watch so they can easily
be removed and changed. Google is making a wide variety of leather and
silicon bands available for Android Wear devices in four different
sizes to ensure compatibility with most smartwatches. Google plans to
make the MODE mechanism design available to other brands to expand the
number of snap-and-swap bands beyond today's launch collection. A tool
on Google's web site helps Android Wear owners select a band that fits
their specific watch. The MODE bands are available to purchase online
from Google, Amazon, and Best Buy.

Dunno about that.

PCs of course. | |
