Unreal Engine 4 is Free - briefly|
| (hx) 10:05 PM CET - Mar,02 2015 | Effective immediately, Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4 is now available to developers everywhere for free. Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney announced the news Monday in a blog post titled "If you love something, set it free." Current subscribers will receive a pro-rated refund. Plus, anyone who has ever paid for an Unreal Engine 4 subscription will receive a $30 credit good in the Unreal Engine Marketplace. Starting now, anyone can download the Unreal Engine 4 engine and use it to build whatever they want. If projects are released commercially, creators must pay a 5 percent royalty on gross revenue following the first $3,000 per product, per quarter.

Plus, it's not free; you're required to register (and accept all the rubbish that comes with it).
Lies, lies, lies. | |

IMHO, the move is meaningful only for smaller developers and those folks must have made their decisions already.

Your turn: care to elaborate? How it is not free? I believe there used to be a monthly fee to access this previously?
| Csimbi | (08:54 PM CET - Mar,03 2015 ) | Free means you get a download link, you download, install and use.
There is no download link, you are required to give away personal information and expose yourself to spam.
That's not free.
You turn. | |
