TechNews - Intel HD 5500 vs HD 4400 - tech|

- Intel HD 5500 vs HD 4400 - Unigine Heaven Benchmark - Comparing
the performance of Intel's new HD 5500 graphics in the Broadwell-U
based 5th Generation Core i-series products to 4th Generation HD 4400
graphics. This test was carried out using Unigine Heaven 4.0 at
1280x720, DX11, Low Detail, No Tessellation, with HD 5500 showing a 18%
performance advantage.

- Virtual Tour Of Paris Using Unreal Engine 4 - This virtual
tour of an apartment in Paris using the Unreal 4 engine is
extremely impressive.
- Windows 10 Build 9926: Where's Windows Update? - Windows
10 is going to be different as are all new operation systems, but
nothing on the scale of Windows 8. There will be a UI learning curve,
but if you take in the new features in small bites, it will all fall
into place long before the OS is released. This installment we are
going to play Finding Windows Update and Where the hell is the Control
Panel? :D Microsoft has started the push to finalize the Windows 10
interface. Get used to it. By the time Windows 10 is ready to publicly
release, Control Panel should be retired completely. Windows Update has
now been removed completely from the old-style Control Panel and found
a new home inside the new, streamlined Windows Settings applet. The
"new" update needs work. As is, there is no granular control of the
updates i.e. there's no way to refuse updates on an individual basis :(
- Windows 10 for Enterprise is not free in the first year - According
to Microsoft's latest blog post, the company's free Windows
10 upgrade offer won't cover the Enterprise version of the OS which
is provided to software assurance customers. It has also been revealed
that updates would be delivered to Enterprise customers differently as
well. Enterprise customers will have a thoroughly tested version of
Windows 10 as compatibility with existing hardware and older software
is a critical requirement of businesses. Microsoft will maintain two
branches for such customers, one being the Long Term Servicing Branch
and the other would be the Current Branch for Business.
- Critical Linux Security Hole Is Discovered - Researchers
at cloud security company Qualys have discovered a
major security hole, GHOST
(CVE-2015-0235), in the Linux GNU C Library (glbibc). This
vulnerability enables hackers to remotely take control of systems
without even knowing any system IDs or passwords. Qualys alerted the
major Linux distributors about the security hole quickly and most have
now released patches for it. Josh Bressers, manager of the Red Hat
product security team said in an interview that, "Red Hat got word of
this about a week ago. Updates to fix GHOST on Red Hat Enterprise Linux
(RHEL) 5, 6, and 7 are now available via the Red Hat Network." This
hole exists in any Linux system that was built with glibc-2.2, which
was released on November 10, 2000. Qualys found that the bug had
actually been patched with a minor bug fix released on May 21, 2013
between the releases of glibc-2.17 and glibc-2.18.
- Microsoft to Back Cyanogen's Android Efforts - Microsoft
has agreed to invest an unknown dollar figure in Cyanogen, which
offers a version of Android devoid of Google's strictures. Cyanogen
recently raised $70 million in funding, of which Microsoft is playing a
minority role say sources cited by the Wall Street Journal. Neither
Microsoft nor Cyanogen commented on Microsoft's involvement with the
Android software maker, but Cyanogen has big goals. Last week, Cyanogen
CEO Kirt McMaster said, "We're going to take Android away from Google."
Cyanogen is working with handset makers to have its version of Android
preinstalled on devices rather than Google's. It has succeeded with
Micromax in India and is working to win over others. Google may offer
Android to OEMs for free, but the search giant places strict
requirements for handset makers to access the Play Store and other
Google services. Cyanogen claims 50 million people have installed its
variant of Android on devices, most of whom are enthusiast users who
root their device and sideload the operating system.
- BT to offer broadband speeds up to 500Mbps,trials to begin
this - BT is the UK's largest internet service provider, as well
as owning much of the network infrastructure used by other providers to
deliver their services. Today, the company outlined its vision for
rolling out 'ultrafast' speeds across the entire country. For home
users, today's top BT Infinity 2 fibre connections offer speeds of up
to 76Mbps, while rival Virgin Media leads the way with speeds of up to
152Mbps. But BT says that it will "deliver ultrafast speeds of up to
500Mbps to most of the UK within a decade."
