TechNews - Windows 8.1 adds WIMBoot - tech
(hx) 10:44 AM CEST - Apr,12 2014
  • Best Graphics Cards For The Money: April 2014 - You can find its GeForce GT 640 for $80 (sometimes a little less), and it improves on the Radeon R7 240's performance just enough to claim our coveted endorsement for gamers getting in the door at 1280x720. Just don't pay more than $80; the $100 Radeon R7 250X (also known as the Radeon HD 7770) is much more capable. In the last month, we saw EVGA and Palit announce plans for a 6 GB GeForce GTX 780 and 780 Ti, further eroding any reason to buy the $1100 GeForce GTX Titan Black (at least for gamers). Call that good news for us, though. You'll be able to get comparable 3D performance for (presumably) less than 75% of the price.

  • Exploring Windows 8.1 Update - If you are on Windows 8 or 8.1, here's what you need to know about the new Windows 8.1 update.
  • Windows 8.1 adds WIMBoot, 16GB devices can have 12GB free space -Today, Microsoft announced that it has introduced a new install option for Windows 8.1 called Windows Image Boot, or WIMBoot, that's been made to allow those kinds of products a way to get a full version of the OS while still having room for the installations of apps and other programs. In a blog post, Microsoft said they dislike the typical way that Windows is installed on a new PC via extracting folders from an image file, WIMBoot keeps all of those files compressed. However, the user of the device sees no difference when they explore their storage in the C: folder.
  • Why Facebook Is Requiring Messenger For Chat - Why is Facebook requiring Messenger for chat? Hummm, maybe because the company doesn't give a damn what you think :
  • Heartbleed Bug: Public Urged To Reset All Passwords - Google Security and Codenomicon - a Finnish security company - revealed on Monday that a flaw had existed in OpenSSL for more than two years that could be used to expose the secret keys that identify service providers employing the code. They said that if attackers made copies of these keys they could steal the names and passwords of people using the services, as well as take copies of their data and set up spoof sites that would appear legitimate because they used the stolen credentials. Heartbleed isn't a problem with the TLS/SSL technologies that encrypt the internet. It's not even a problem with how OpenSSL works in theory. It's just a dumb coding mistake. When two servers get ready to make an encrypted handshake, they perform something called a heartbeat, an act from which the bug gets its awesomely terrifying name.
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Specs Rumors: All We Know So Far - The display on the Galaxy Note 3 measures closer to six inches (5.7 inches to be precise), and it looks like the display on the Note 4 might be even bigger than the panel on the Note 3. Don't worry, though. It won't be that much bigger. According to the latest reports, the display will be a 5.75-inch panel. There's also talk of a 2560 x 1440 resolution. If these numbers are correct, you're looking at 510 ppi compared to the 388 ppi on the Note 3
  • If You Try To Beat A Galaxy 5S To Death, It Will Fight Back - You know those paint bombs that end up in sacks of bank money during robbery movies (and probably real life)? We're wondering why Samsung would put a tiny version of those in a phone.
  • T-Mobile Ups Free Tablet Data to 1GB for Voice Customers - T-Mobile has announced the second of three new initiatives meant to help lure in customers. The company is targeting tablet customers with its latest offer, which will give current voice subscribers a total of 1.2GB of free tablet data until the end of the year. T-Mobile already offers 200MB to all tablets for free and is adding 1GB to that pot. Second, T-Mobile is selling LTE-equipped tablets at the same price as their Wi-Fi-only counterparts. That means a 16GB Apple iPad Air with LTE will cost $499 instead of $629 when purchased through T-Mobile. T-Mobile is carrying over its Contract Freedom initiative to tablets, as well, and will pay the ETF for customers who break their tablet contract and switch to T-Mobile. Last, T-Mobile is offering tablets for $0 down with corresponding monthly payments for those who prefer to finance their hardware.

  • Android TV is Google's new set-top box - Less than a week after Amazon debuted Fire TV, it appears Google is ready to launch its own set-top box. Called "Android TV," Google's next attempt at taking over the living room will do pretty much what every other company is doing. However, Android TV is no longer a crazy attempt to turn your TV into a bigger, more powerful smartphone. "Android TV is an entertainment interface, not a computing platform," writes Google. "It's all about finding and enjoying content with the least amount of friction." It will be "cinematic, fun, fluid, and fast."

In an age with instant communication at your fingertips and digital marketing on every platform, there are those who still get out messages the old-fashioned way, with a paintbrush and some attitude. Windows 8.1 adds WIMBoot, 16GB devices can have 12GB free space

With Windows 7 sales rising (and Windows 8 sales dipping), this is not very useful news.
Let's hope we Windows 9 will care more about the PC users then mobile wannabes and that it can be installed from a USB stick, finally without any hacking...

Heartbleed Bug: Public Urged To Reset All Passwords

This bug was known for a long time. Our friends at NSA knew this long ago, too. So what's the news value of this?

T-Mobile Ups Free Tablet Data to 1GB for Voice Customers

It's a good marketing gimmick because nobody uses mobile data; everyone's on free (and faster) WiFi, lol

Oculus Rift + Tron Light Cycles = Bad Ass!
