How To Fix Free-2-Play Games - briefly|
| (hx) 08:02 PM CEST - Apr,11 2014 | Free to Play or F2P games often earn criticism for putting profits ahead of good game design. Pay walls and pay to win monetization strategies corrupt the experience for all players, whether they spend money or not, and cost these games not only their quality but also their conversion rates over time.

I have stopped playing free-to-play games for the very reasons described here. I'd rather buy a game than feel that "money wall" and "extortion" type of things ever again. These give a bad name for the industry.
| Rabbiddog | (04:59 PM CEST - Apr,15 2014 ) | I've pretty much stopped playing most F2P games for these sames reasons. The only one I currently play is Neverwinter online. They seemed to have done a good job at balancing this equation out and offer all their content free. I have been playing that game since launch and have spent exactly zero money on it and still am having a blast playing it.
Of course, and to be fair, I don't PvP. I do questing and skirmishes. But so far, there has been no need to P2W (Pay to Win) in this game (for me at least). What pissed me off about most of these F2P games is many started out as paid games, and I ended up buying the game itself, then paying a sub for a year or two, only to have the game go F2P.
As a result. I no longer buy any new MMO's that come out (ESO anyone?). Instead, I'll just wait a year or so for the inevitable "going F2P" announcement and get the game for free. If it sucks because of the typical F2P shortcomings. Then at least I didn't pay for it.
