AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Released - Priced At $1499 - tech|
| (hx) 12:19 AM CEST - Apr,09 2014 | Hot on the heels of the reveal of Nvidia's mammoth $3000 Titan-Z, AMD has completed work on its own halo product - the Radeon R9 295X2. It has much in common with its competitor: it brings together two top-of-the-line GPUs into one graphics card, effectively cramming two R9 290Xs into a single product. AMD says that this card is meant for the ultra high-end enthusiast - those who crave top-end performance at 4K resolution.
AMD's Radeon R9 295X2 is packed with 8GB of DDR5 (meaning that each core has access to 4GB), sports 2 x 64 ROPs, is clocked at 1018MHz, features 2 x 176 texture units and requires a 500W PSU. A lot can be said about Radeon R9 295X2. While it is the fastest card available, it suffers from the fact that Crossfire profiles are required in order to get advantage of both of the GPU cores. Moreover, this new dual-GPU consumes a lot of power, something that will put off those seeking for a high-end GPU with low power consumption. Still, AMD has managed to create the fastest GPU to date, so kudos to them. Yes, there is also Nvidia's Titan Z but that will cost $3000 :D
