Ya, no. It's a good game and paying doesn't give you more than skins and crap. At least not from what I've seen. I am competing quite well in free-mode. Great game and has some originality too. The problem I have found is trying to find a server you don't have the boyfriend system working for you. Rare when I found a pub that was really pub. So I go for the Co-Op and it's fun too. Good game, worth a look look, especially if you are done with super cheat infested COD or BF like I am.
