Space Engineers Announced - briefly|

Space Engineers is a sandbox game about engineering, construction and maintenance of space works. The game utilizes a realistic volumetric-based physics engine: all objects can be assembled, disassembled, damaged and destroyed. In Space Engineers, players will build space ships and space stations of various sizes and utilization (civil and military), pilot ships and perform asteroid mining.

Just the first two items in that list mean it's not a simulation of space. So in other words, the game contains no realistic physics in any way whatsoever. Talk about misleading advertising. Oh, and asteroid fields have a density about 1/1,000,000,000th what's shown in that screenshot. If you were to stand on an asteroid in the Belt, you'd need a high powered telescope to see that nearest asteroid as anything other than a tiny, dust-mote sized speck.
So tired of people claiming to make a "realistic" space game and then falling back on the same old worn-out tropes.
I will say that Lunar Flight is pretty good and the physics are fairly hardcore, but the scope of the game is very limited at this point. MS Space Sim was the last game that was truly a realistic simulation of space travel. I guess there's just not enough of a market when the average console drool-beast wants nothing more than a few minutes of yanking on their stick. I'd be willing to bet most of them forgot Newton's Laws five seconds after muddling their way through the test. |
