Microsoft Is Removing Xbox One DRM - console|
| (hx) 11:57 PM CEST - Jun,19 2013 | This could be the biggest backtrack in gaming history: Microsoft will reverse course on their DRM policies for Xbox One, dropping their 24-hour Internet check-in requirement and all restrictions on used games.
An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games - After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today - There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.
In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.
These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

Common now there future vision depends on screwing you, you don't seriously believe this is anything more than temporary set back that they will re-implement a little differently or just flat out bring back at a later date.

| Sabot | (01:06 PM CEST - Jun,20 2013 ) | M$ absolutely gagged on sony`s balls! This isn't a triumph tom, you are so fucking thick. Its a marketing fuck up, big time.
If Sony hadn't done what they had done' you would be sucking DRM big time courtesy of M$. Can't believe how positively thick you truly are....
Nothing was changed for the gamer at all. Besides I prefer to trust the devil I know than the devil that can swing one way when its FORCED to.
Now I want to read all the retracted statements and all the fucking bullshit that is going to spew out of every M$ orifice.
Inc the choking pauses, we love you tom and we did it for you, and you only.
M$ the fucking laughing stock! I can guarantee you the bum fuck box one was going to be the most hacked console on the planet, if they hadn't grovelled. Shows you how many people were telling M$ to go fuck themselves.
Drastic marketing failure. M$ choice? Not at all.
Tom jumping up and down like a
Little schoolboy. Like he is... M$ is your friend now eh? Your only friend!
Of course I remember you ripping me out cause I bought Alan Wake on PC, you know that Xbox exclusive ? The one you called a fucking Shitty console port.... You two faced shit!
Biggest pussies on the planet. We listened to you, our fans. Thank you for helping shape the bum box one......... Excuse me while I vomit. We know how much you enjoy trading games with friends, buying secondhand, of course that's what they said a week ago? This lot have more shit on their noses and faces than tom does from sucking aresholes big time......
| Csimbi | (02:30 PM CEST - Jun,20 2013 ) | It was only a matter of time. You can't screw with gamers if you want to sell.
I'm glad it happened.
It was a good move from MS, but not a smart one.
If they were smart, they would not even have introduced this rubbish in the first place. The bullet is already in their own leg.
In any case, I am sensing that this is the way many industries go nowadays. They announce something with the tightest possible restrictions to determine whether people are willing to buy in. If yes, they go ahead. If there's resistance, they scrap it.
In the meantime, they force competitor's hands.
This is not clearly not a fair play, so I wonder if it could be classified as spreading false information and a class-action lawsuit could follow.
The way I see it, they could reverse course again just one day before the release.
@Stumpus
I can't help thinking whether it's only a marketing thing.
Think about how many times MS listened to use feedback. On my count, 0.
MS did not deliver anything decent during the last few years.
Could it be that they can't implement what they promised, so it's just a desperate attempt to "save face"? They would be saving a great deal of money on scratching something that was not implemented yet.
Just a thought.

I just read a good article on appy gamer, tablet, there was a helluva lot of developer disdain going M$ way, after Sony announced the lack of DRM, secondhand gaming on their console etc. Sony have also embraced indie devs. It was and still is a brave move in light of today's internet always signed in apps. Of course it could be looked at a PR exercise, but at a serious financial cost. Test the water, why don't you... Trouble is it was too much of a fuck up to be anything other than a major brain fade.
If M$ had gone DRM they would have been hacked to pieces. I think they also realised they would never be able to financially counteract the sustained hacks to break their console. It was a clearly up the arse , attitude that M$ had. As you said, they listen to no one and do their own thing. Fuck everyone else. Except this time they had NO choice.
As I have said and it is going around the internet, Sony made M$ jump before they were pushed. Without sony`s stance, M$ would have changed gaming forever and single handedly killed it off! Sales on PC and consoles are bad enough without them slicing their nose off to spite their face. How they could possibly justify piles and piles of `dead` discs, after one use is mind boggling! Even the government must have questioned their ethics? Is it acceptable to have millions of perfectly good discs in landfill? I don't think so. M$ overstepped the mark in more ways than one.
So M$ done nothing here, it was Sony who turned an arrogant, megalomania company and showed them how to treat its customers. They are sooo like Apple in that they think they are untouchable, wow it must hurt now. They still can't say sorry, though. Anyone with a braincell-tom excluded- can laugh their arises off at the biggest incompetent company in the world at this present time.
Eat humble shit, M$. I distrust M$ as the most vile company now in the world. Miles more than EA. They just make games. M$ make fuck all but money... And HUGE greedy mistakes!!
I just wonder how many people got sacked over this?
| Kompressor | (04:05 PM CEST - Jun,20 2013 ) | | Everyone here is retarded. No one has a problem with DRM on Steam, Android, iPhone, and everything else. Cloud gaming is the future, and is the now. The only reason Sony attacked the Xbox is because Sony's cloud isn't ready yet and won't be for another year, at which time, Sony will go DRM. BTW, has everyone forgotten that Sony is the king of DRM? People are so stupid, short sighted, an nieve. It was so funny watching Sony trying to play the good guy for the first time ever just because it happened to work out for them at the time. I was looking forward to the Xbox One mainly because it was all digital and it is so annoying messing with the discs all the time. And that made the XBO better than the PS4 because of it. There is nothing new and great about the PS4. The PS4 is basically a PS3 but more powerful. Sony used the dumb (which is most people) to attack Microsoft. The XBO had allot of great things going for it, but now things are worse because all of the whiners that can't afford to buy a game and have to barrow everything from their friends. If that is the case, then you shouldn't be buying an XBO or PS4 in the first place, you should get something cheaper like a Wii or something. | |

DO NOT SAY THAT! Thats just wrong! Learn more about the industry. See who supports indie development, and who charges more then 1k to be a signed developer and it is NOT offered to anyone...
Im just glad microsoft fixed this mistake!

Woah!! Wait a fucking minute, here. Speak for yourself!
Millions of people the world over have a problem with DRM and cloud. You blind as well as arrogantly stupid? Never seen a problem here with Ubisoft, Origin, EA, Starforce, Simcity always connected everything else?
Man, you sound so retarded you don't even know it.....
You think people download cracks and hack PC software and consoles cause they have jobs?
Overzealous PC/console Security is the bain of this world.
STEAM.....yeah right..if you haven't got your games connected to STEAM once for an update and your net is down or whatever, guess what? No gaming. Connect once then go offline but not the otherway round. Say that when you have 88 UNPLAYABLE games cause someone's put a digger through your main street cable!
Can't believe you wrote that......

quote: Adam Boyes, vice president of third-party relations at SCEA, appeared on stage during the event to evangelise Sony's efforts to connect with indie developers.
"You've all seen some impressive blockbusters coming to the PS4 in the near future, but as a platform cultivating a wide variety of experiences is critical to our DNA," said Boyes.
"We absolutely love scouring the earth for the most creative and innovative developers."
Boyes went on to introduce a number of indie games making their console debuts on PS4. The list included Transistor, the next game from Bastion developer Supergiant Games; Klei Entertainment's Don't Starve; Tribute Games' Mercenary Kings; Octodad: Dadliest Catch from Young Horses, a studio comprised of DePaul University graduates and Switchblade Monkeys' Secret Ponchos.
Other titles include Ragtag Studios' Ray's The Dead on the PS4; Red Barrel's Outlast; from Oddworld: New N' Tasty from Oddworld Inhabitants; Galak-Z from 17-bit Games.
Boyes continued to say Sony is giving studios the freedom to self-publish and hopes to develop "the worlds best indie games portfolio across all PlayStation platforms" using this strategy.
"Our vision is crystal clear: to continue to lead the console space as the most open and inclusive platform for developers, while providing gamers with an endless variety of beautiful, challenging and fantastic experiences."
Sony has confirmed the PlayStation 4 release date will fall in the Christmas 2013 period in Europe and North America. The console will cost 399 USD / Euros or £349 GBP, Sony has announced.

| Baconnaise | (06:12 PM CEST - Jun,20 2013 ) | What I don't understand is if they want to move to digital distro like on PC why didn't they casually start this shit on 360/PS3? They're going ot have to drop the always online requirement unless it's multiplayer and making sure they have virtual stores that are rock solid plus offer actual value. The whole subscription cost thing involved with live/psn should go away as long as they take a cut of the money off digital distro done through consoles. That's just a couple of basics to start off.
They really need to get their act together and fast. PC has always been the future never console they're just a stopgap. They're trying to shove PC in a sense into a box which is fine but we aren't seeing the benefits. Consoles that don't have a sort of steam like platform this gen will die. If you can't carry your game library around via your account then it's a failure. Platform shouldn't be an issue just the library account which they seem to forget. If they put out reference specs on a platform or PC and said build it it to at least this standard you can let hardware manufacturers fight over the space instead and move things along.
| Kompressor | (10:20 PM CEST - Jun,20 2013 ) | Remember in the XBO reveal where the ship drives into the bridge and completely takes out the bridge without a dent on the ship's smokestack? Are people so dumb that they don't know the complete opposite would happen, that nothing would happen to the bridge and the ship's smokestack would be taken out like tissue paper?
They have questions like this in IQ tests, and it appears that everyone is failing.

No they don't or those tests fail. IQ tests are made so they could be done by a person that was completely cut off civilization and knowledge. They only need to be shown how to use a pencil.
And I have a problem with DRM. Never spent a dime on game with draconic DRM. Just pirate that shit and gg.
