TechNews-always online confirmed for next-gen Xbox - tech|

- Windows Blue build 9364 shows smaller & larger Tiles - It's
looking likely that the build of Windows Blue (9364) that showed up on the
web
just moments ago is in fact real, as some people have reportedly been
able to install the build and demonstrate some of the new features that
accompany Blue. Previously we heard that there will be more
customizable tile sizes in Windows Blue, and this appears to be true in
this build; screenshots have appeared that show both smaller and even
larger Live Tiles on the Start screen. Multi-tasking improvements also
appear to have been made, including the ability to run two apps
side-by-side with the same application width.
- Leaked video shows Microsoft's Excel natural language project
- Earlier
this month, Microsoft held its TechFest event where Microsoft Research
team members showed a number of their projects. One of those efforts
that was released to the public involved automating various tasks
inside the Excel spreadsheet. As it turns out, the public reveal of
this Excel research project may have been just the tip of the iceberg
in terms of what Microsoft is working on for future versions of the
spreadsheet application. MSFTKitchen has now posted yet another
leaked video from Microsoft TechFest, showing off a previously
private demo of yet another Excel research project.
- Surface Pros oversleeping, refusing to wake up from sleep mode
- Luckily LeoNot has found a fix that's reasonably simple
and requires just a simple change to your power management settings.
- 'Cloud gaming' has a future - just maybe not in the cloud - No
matter how fast your Internet connection is or how near you are to the
server room actually rendering your game, Grid just won't be 100
percent as smooth as local rendering all of the time. There are too
many variables in play—your own home network, your ISP's equipment and
wiring, the load on your ISP's network, your distance from the server,
and any number of other issues that could impact your experience
negatively. Unlike something like Netflix, which can buffer video to
mask these issues, cloud gaming needs to be streaming in real time all
the time. Now, move the computer doing the rendering from someone else's server room into your own home.
The only limiting factor is going to be your own home network. The most
unpredictable elements have been removed, and you'll have a much faster
connection between your PC and your tablet than you'd be able to get
through most Internet service providers.
- Durango's SDK leaked, always online confirmed for next-gen
Xbox - The
SDK (Software Development Kit) for Microsoft's next-generation Xbox
console has recently been leaked onto a website called VGLeaks,
revealing many of the system's hardware specifications and features.
One of the major features listed within the XDK's "Durango Hardware
Overview" section is the confirmation that the console will be always online
and always connected.
- Major security hole allows Apple passwords to be reset with
only - Apple yesterday rolled out two-step verification, a security
measure that promises to further shield Apple ID and iCloud accounts
from being hijacked. Unfortunately, today a new exploit has been discovered
that affects all customers who haven't yet enabled the new feature. It
allows anyone with your email address and date of birth to reset your
password - using Apple's own tools.
- Fla. House passes bill banning Internet cafes, adult arcades -
Internet cafes across the state could soon
be forced to close their doors. The Florida House on Friday
overwhelming approved a ban on the gambling establishments. The House
voted 108-7 in favor of House Bill 155.
- Apple Acquires Location Tech Company WiFiSLAM - Apple went shopping this week and came back to the
office toting a $20 Million dollar indoor location tech company -
WiFiSLAM.
- Roku 3 review: A set-top box to trump all other set-top boxes
- The Roku 3, available now for $99.99, calls itself
the "most powerful, responsive streaming box" that Roku has ever built.
It features an ARM-based processor and other components all wrapped
inside a shiny, hockey-puck shaped chassis. At 3.5 × 3.5 × 1 inches,
it's a bit smaller than the second- and third-generation Apple TV and
Western Digital's Play set-top box. It also feels a bit like a
paperweight, but that helps keep the puck from sliding around in your
entertainment center.
- The 10 Best Games You Can Get On Android Right Now - This article lists ten games that are better than
most of the others.
- Bill Gates Has $100k For Anyone Who Can Invent Next-Gen Condom
- Condoms are a life-saving piece of tech, and for being little
more than uninflated latex balloons, they do their job pretty well if
you wear them. That's the part that Bill Gates is working on.
- F1: Lewis Hamilton wrong pit stop! - Lewis
Hamilton forgot that he doesn't drive for McLaren anymore and went
to the wrong pit stop. The last part of the video is the best :-)
- Riddick - Official Teaser Trailer - Left for dead on a
sun-scorched planet, Riddick finds himself up against an alien race of
predators. Activating an emergency beacon alerts two ships: one
carrying a new breed of mercenary, the other captained by a man from
Riddick's past. Release Date: September 6, 2013
- Second World War Z Trailer - Paramount will release World War Z
in theaters on June 21st after being delayed from December last
year.
- The Story of Earth (in 2 Minutes and 20 Seconds) - How old is
the Earth, how long did it take for life to appear, and how long
would it take for your hair to grow to the Moon?

Rupert's Drop.

I don't give a damn about tiles. So, if it comes with the same UI as 8, I am going to have to skip this version, too.
I am guessing that large corporations will do the same; the switch will either impose great training costs or decreased productivity - without any benefit.
MS either rethinks this, or fails.
It seems Windows 7 will remain the prevalent choice for some time to come...

I said it many times in the past that it won't fly. It won't even fly when it's in my home. Cloud has its very limited purpose, and that's not gaming. Move on.

Might be interesting for hackers only - I don't see why gamers would be interested in this.

You don't get what you pay for, it's that simple. What do you expect from sweatshops, really? No security-conscious person buys Apple or Android products. This is an area where Blackberry excels.

Gambling, ok, adult stuff, ok, but not all internet cafes are like that.

So you (and everyone else) would know where your phone was when it was hacked.

I guess he's interested in field-testing them, too. :-) | |
