 Steam Greenlight Announced - briefly
(hx) 02:11 AM CEST - Jul,10 2012
If you have always wanted a say in which games should be released on Steam, you're in luck. It looks like Valve is turning to the community when it comes to figuring out what games it should be releasing on its video game platform/online store next. According to a press release, Valve has announced Steam Greenlight - a service that will let the community decide what games will go on steam.
Valve have just announced Steam Greenlight. The new service will work like the Steam Workshop, but for indie games. Creators can submit their work, whether it’s an unfinished playable build or screenshots and videos, and gamers can then vote on the games they like. The best rated games will enter Valve's approval process for inclusion in the Steam store.

Steam Greenlight is currently due to launch at the end of August, and it should be a boon to any developer trying to make a living from indie games.

"Making the call to publish or not publish a title isn't fun," said Anna Sweet, in a press release the developer just released. "Many times opinions vary and our internal jury is hung on a decision. But with the introduction of the Steam Workshop we realized an opportunity to enlist the community's help as we review certain titles and, hopefully, increase the volume and quality of creative submissions."

Oh well, the way this sounds is pretty stupid.
Give power to the people to decide on the little people ?
WTF... i have to see how this works but the way it sounds now is just pathetic.
Why would you give the ability a morons, jerks and teens to decide whether a game should go on sale or not ?
Many, many indie companies are struggling to get their games on a platform as Steam, because they can afford that much... so, set a barrier to the indie studios and what you get ?
MW3 only... great

But, let's see how this greenlightning will work and judge then

This has got Apple app approval wrote all over it. This is a direct copy of the way apps work and are rated and approved.
Pc games are made for tablets as well as pc and are basically the same in every way other than pure touch screen, obviously.
Wake up Valve and smell the coffee. Talk about being behind the times....

One tiny thing they could do to help a little would be to only let people vote if they have purchased at least 3 (or 5 but 3 sounds fine to me) indie games.

It's far from perfect but it would weed out alot of bored assholes just looking to shit on every indie game and downvoting everything for the hell of it.
