 F.E.A.R. 3 Gameplay Performance Review - tech
(hx) 11:13 AM CEST - Jul,06 2011
HardOCP's gameplay evaluation features six different video cards, the GeForce GTX 560Ti, GTX 570 and a GTX 580 on the NVIDIA side and the Radeon HD 6870, HD 6950 and HD 6970 from AMD. Here's a taster:
2560x1600 :
Best Performer :
At 2560x1600, the AMD Radeon HD 6970 gave us the highest framerates, but did not always provide a better experience than its slower competition.
Best Value :
The AMD Radeon HD 6950 turned in a great performance at 2560x1600, and due to a potential issue with the way 4X AA is implemented in F.3.A.R., it was able to provide an identical gameplay experience as video cards costing more money.

1920x1200 :
Best Performer :
At 1920x1200, the AMD Radeon HD 6950 gave us the fastest performance with the highest available settings.
Best Value :
On the other hand, the Radeon HD 6870 gave us a comparable experience and costs a lot less.

1680x1050 :
Best Performer:
At 1680x1050, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti edged out the AMD Radeon HD 6870 for the raw performance win.
Best Value:
Unfortunately for the GTX 560 Ti, the AMD Radeon HD 6870 is a lot less expensive and performs almost on par with it.

For gamers with 30inch monitors, the AMD Radeon HD 6970 is a great choice
. You can get a MSI model at Newegg for $339.99. A $20 mail-in rebate brings that cost down to $319.99 plus shipping. Our 21-27inch 1080p or 1920x1200 gamers have fewer pixels to push, so they don't need quite as much power. A Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 can be had for $249.99 after a rebate. Gamers with still smaller displays, around 20inch running at 1680x1050, have some great options too. A PowerColor Radeon HD 6870 is available for $189.99 plus shipping. Again, a mail-in rebate for $10 brings that down to $179.99. At this resolution, NVIDIA fans may prefer the GeForce GTX 560 Ti. It performed on par with the Radeon HD 6870 in every test we conducted. You can buy a EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti for $239.99, with yet another mail-in rebate bringing the price down by $20 to $219.99 plus shipping.
