Weekend Reading - War of Magic goes gold - briefly
(hx) 03:39 PM CEST - Aug,14 2010
  • Elemental: War of Magic goes gold - Stardock announces that development of Elemental: War of Magic is complete, and the now-gold strategy game is expected in stores on August 24. It will also be available to purchase and download via Stardock's Impulse service. On that same date the novel Elemental: Destiny's Embers, written by Stardock CEO Brad Wardell, will be released by Random House. People who buy the game and also purchase the novel will also be able to access an extra downloadable campaign for the game called, oddly enough, Elemental: Destiny's Embers. The extra campaign will be released in stages with the first one coming sometime in September.
  • Bethesda confirms new project in development - Bethesda Games Studios director Todd Howard’s confirmed the developer has a new project in development. Speaking during a panel about creating blockbuster titles with RAGE producer Tim Willits and Respawn Entertainment's Vince Zampella and Jason West, Howard confirmed the project's been in development for two years. I don't have any more details then that. As far as  know,  Bethesda have trademarked 'Skyrim', but nobody knows whether it is the fifth TES title or not. Might just as well be related to the MMORPG.
  • Battlefield Bad Company 2 Ultimate Edition Surfaces - Amazon now offers the 'Ultimate Edition' of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Some of the features to be included with the game are: Onslaught 4-player co-op expansion, Limited Edition unlocks, All VIP map packs, Full version of Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Ultimate Edition should be available on August 31 at a price of $59.95. The inclusion of BF1943 is a nice bonus for those who don't already have it. Other than that, this seems a bit bare for $60.
  • Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 bundle on Amazon for $250 - Sure, it's the old Xbox 360, the noisy, hot one, but you can get it for only $250 on Amazon, and that includes a copy of Final Fantasy XIII. Not a bad deal.
  • C.S.I: Fatal Conspiracy announced - There seems to be an audience for Ubisoft's long running series of mystery-adventure games based on the C.S.I. TV series because this week yet another entry was announced. C.S.I.: Fatal Conspiracy is due out this October for the PC and other platforms and like many of the previous CSI titles its being developed by Telltale Games
  • THQ Confirms Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Will Use Steamworks, Not GFWL - THQ has confirmed for Shacknews that Relic's upcoming Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will use Steamworks, for copy protection, rather than Games For Windows LIVE. ShackNews also now offers a Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine interview with producer Andy Lang.
  • LittleBigPlanet 2 Beta Coming Soon - A post over on LittleBigWorkshop from Media Molecule's community manager Spaff teases the release of an upcoming LittleBigPlanet 2 beta.
  • Battlestar Galactica Online To Feature Key Characters From Series - The upcoming browser-based MMOG, Battlestar Galactica Online, will feature SYFY TV series regulars 'Number Six' (Tricia Helfer), Sharon 'Boomer' Valerii/'Number Eight' (Grace Park), Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace (Katee Sackhoff) and and other fan favourites. You can check out a few character images below. More about the BGO cast will be discussed at gamescom when Bigpoint CEO Heiko Hubertz delivers his keynote.
  • RAGE Running on iPhone at 60 FPS - During John Carmack's keynote at the start of QuakeCon 2010, he showed off a rather impressive tech demo. Shown in real time was a brief demonstration of id Software's RAGE running at 60 FPS on an iPhone. Running on the iPhone 4 but easily run on the 3GS, the visuals indeed rivaled anything from the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox, and might even be able to give a few current-gen titles a run for their money.
  • Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition Coming Soon? - According to Joystiq, GameStop recently listed (which has since been removed) something called "Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition" on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, supposedly due for release on October 12 for $59.99.
  • Steam Free Weekend For Booster Trooper - Booster Trooper is scoring a free weekend on Steam. The freebie ends on Sunday at 1:00 PM PST. There's also a 50% off sale, which will end on Monday at 10:00 AM PST.
  • Unreal Development Kit August 2010 Beta - The Unreal Development Kit (UDK) beta, a free-to-use version of the Unreal Engine 3 development tools, has been updated with the latest updates and improvements. The August update includes general improvements, particularly on the scaleform pipeline and lighting elements.
  • 3D Gaming Won't Make Your Eyes Stick That Way, Says Top Doc - Gamasutra has posted an interview with respected Los-Angeles-area opthalmologist Mike Borchert, and the good doctor seems fairly dismissive of the idea that viewing 3D displays could cause permanent vision damage.

what about permanent brain damage? lol sssssh don't wake up the zombies.

Seriously anyone stupid enough to watch a lot of what is put on TV in todays world of even more mainstream bullshit and opinion forming garbage is most likely an ignorant dumb fuck already. 3D viewing will just hypnotize and make people even more dumber and susceptible to ignoring their own critical thinking or what little they have on it over issues, while they get even more sucked into mindless distractions and crap mixed with lies they're lead to believe in and actions to support. Oblivious to the reality of what is really going on in the world they live in not at all bothered about the real truth, more interested in technology and escapism.

The system and all that it makes up is corrupt and you can change it, stop believing in the deceptive words of well funded quacks and industry media/movie manipulation of lies.

As if a temporary damage were not enough...

Wow, Koogle, forgot your tinfoil hat today?

You know, there were people like you in a similar situation, about 70 years ago. You know, when some fools had the idiotic idea to make movies in color? They were having a cow about that. I mean, seriously, color, how decadent. And, like, all that influx of sinful information on the eyes, surely that would make people crazy and violent! No proper, intelligent person would stand for color movies.

You could go a couple of years back again, and then you would find people who went onto their soapbox when some other idiot thought it was a great idea to make, you know, moving pictures.

I'm not even going to mention the drama that the introduction of SOUND to movies created.

Truly epic.

You are right, all this must be part of a hundrets of year spanning conspiracy to rob YOU of your mental capacity.

Snerk.

Shit, I am on Koogle's side here for at least some of it. I think 3D is a crock of shit and I don't believe the bullshit that there is no damage.

Look what it did to this poor sob...
