TechNews - GTX 460 SLI vs. AMD GPUs - tech
(hx) 02:10 AM CEST - Aug,06 2010
  • GeForce GTX 460 SLI Performance vs. AMD GPUs - For gamers looking to get into multi-monitor gaming, the Radeon HD 5850 may be a better overall value than the GeForce GTX 460 SLI. Each video card costs only about $30 more than the Galaxy Super OC GeForce GTX 460 cards we used for this evaluation, but the 5850 will support Eyefinity multi-display gaming right out of the box, without having to buy a second video card.
  • MSI GeForce GTX 460 768MB Cyclone in SLI - Overall the GTX 460 in SLI is just amazing; the performance is huge but NVIDIA have done to the GTX 480 what they did to the GTX 465 and GTX 470 with this model. They may have shot themselves in the foot as the GTX 460 in SLI shouldn't be cheaper than a single GTX 480 while at the same time faster. We're talking around 20% cheaper.
  • GF104 replacement for GTX 470 up NVIDIA's sleeve? - Fudzilla claims that NVIDIA has a stock of fully-functional GF104 GPUs ready to replace the GTX 470, which is based on the GF100 chip. The recently released GTX 460 has one of its eight shading multiprocessors disabled, meaning it has 336 CUDA cores out of a possible 384. The GTX 470, on the other hand, is a scaled down version of the GTX 480, with one of its SMs similarly disabled. By replacing that with the re-engineered GF104, the GTX 475 (or whatever they end up calling it) will bring more performance while cutting down on the heat, noise, and power consumption characteristic of the first-generation Fermi parts.
  • Intel Milestone Confirms Light Beams Can Replace Electronic Signals - Intel Corporation today announced an important advance in the quest to use light beams to replace the use of electrons to carry data in and around computers.

Windows, Mac and Linux versions are all available in a total of 24 languages. Beta 2 brings a new look to Firefox 4 (with tabs now on top by default), a new 'App Tab' feature, and features various performance improvements over the previous beta. Mozilla warns that some add-ons may not be compatible with this version of Firefox.
  • Microsoft confirms IE9 public beta is arriving in September - Microsoft said last Thursday that it's currently readying an Internet Explorer 9 public beta for September. According to sources familiar with Microsoft's plans the software giant was originally targeting late August for the public beta but this date slipped slightly. Although Microsoft officials didn't confirm the exact date for the public beta, Neowin believes this will be September 2.

  • Windows Phone 7 coming to Europe in October, US in November - Engadget reports that Windows Phone 7 is expected to happen in the October timeframe across Europe, and in the November timeframe in the US.
  • Panasonic announces first 3D camcorder - Panasonic has unveiled the world's first consumer 3D video camcorder, the HDC-SDT750. Recording works by using a 3D mode which is enabled by simply snapping on a 3D conversion lens designed to fit exactly to the camcorder. It records a split image, so you won't be getting full 1080p 3D, but more like 960 x 1080. That's pretty good for the first of its kind. Panasonic figured that since there are no 3D players on the market yet, the camera itself will have to function as the player. The only way to watch them is to output to a 3D capable TV via the camcorder. You can alternatively turn off 3D and just record straight to HDMI, but that's not what you dropped $1400 big ones down for now is it. Expect it this October in the US.

I use MS Essentials.. It's good.

I was a big promoter of AVG but I find AVG sucks major ass, they f'd it up. It's buggy and more bloated.

Avast! don't like it and it's bloated too. I use MS and I use Spybot S&D and Super Antispyware. It's all anyone needs really.

Comodo sucks and once I used this on a friends pc and only cuz he was getting trojans from facebook, well it was recommended to me so I put it on and not even 2-3 days later Comodo was F'd, couldn't do jack with it. Also it prompted and kept interfering every time I ran something. Fucking Annoyware is what I call Comodo..

Avira, junk too. I tried this out for a week, it had so many annoying things with it. You can to go through menu's and disable this and that and it kept constantly thinking things were trojans when they were not. I just got sick of it and removed it.

Clam is a complete piece of junk as well as eScan..

In my opion, MS Essentials all you ever need and if you really want to use other things to make double sure you are running clean get Spybot S&D and SuperAntispyware.
