 S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pirpyat DirectX11 shots - media
(hx) 08:46 PM CEST - Sep,25 2009
To demonstrate S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat's support of DirectX 11, publisher bitComposer has released some new screenshots from GSC Game World's latest. See the difference? Yep, it's hard to see but the enviromental DirectX11 shots have objects generating softer and more realistic shadows than their DirectX10 counterparts. The PC action-RPG hits German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) in November, then Europe and North America in Q1 2010.

Anyone else feel this is DirectX 10 all over again, in other words nothing.

I was thinking that, but the tessellated soldiers look much better! Whether you'd notice that in game whilst shooting at them though..

But is it really worth them updating this game all the time? The outdoor scenes look kind of dated now..

.. and I was me preferring the crisper shadows that showed more detail and less blur.. maybe your wording is confusing as softer shadows are in the dx10 screenshots..

stalker03.jpg = dx11
stalker04.jpg = dx10

that would make sense, seeing as the dx11 shows like a fake ambient occlusion around base of objects.. which you could say is softer shadows, but really the actual casted shadows are showing more detail(ok maybe not with the fences.. hmm)

yup... dx11/10, vis7a/vista ... same nonsense... nothing really amazing here.. I would have liked to have seen a dx9 screenshot... cus none of this slight gfx change is going to make much difference in actual gaming..time for some real progress.

Tessellation is an DX10 feature, it is not new in DX11. DX11 mostly addresses some re-writing of code in order to adapt to differed rendering and some changes in paths etc. Nothing big anyway, DX10.1 mostly had all of it already done.
