Weekend Reading - New zombie-based RPG - briefly
(hx) 08:14 PM CEST - Aug,08 2009
  • New zombie-based RPG in production by Obsidian veterans - Two veterans of Obsidian Studios have banded together to form a new independent developer, Double Bear Productions. Their first game, just recently announced, is an unnamed PC RPG focused around a zombie apocalypse as people come to terms with what has happened and begin to search for a safe place to live, ala Dawn of the Dead. Details on the new game were broken on the Iron Tower forums. Full post from Brian Mitsoda after the cut.
  • Lord of Vermillion 2 Revealed - Lord of Vermilion II is the sequel to Square Enix's popular arcade collectible card game, which uses real trading cards to summon monsters, allies, and such in-game. The sequel is particularly noteworthy because, as the new site reveals, it includes characters from Final Fantasy IV, Romancing SaGa II, and even creatures from Magic: The Gathering.
  • Gabe Newell Reveals Deaf Character in Half-Life 2's History - A three part YouTube interview has popped up in which Newell explains this backstory to a group of focus testers. As you may be able to tell, many of the participants are hearing impaired.
Unfortunately, the author of the video has disabled embedding from YouTube. However, the reveal by Newell can be found in part two of three. The rest of the interview can be found here by way of part one and then part three.
  • Dragon Age: Origins Delayed - BioWare rep told IGN the following: 'Dragon Age Origins will be released on November 3rd in North America and November 6th in Europe for Xbox 360 and PC. The Playstation 3 version will follow later in November'
  • Need for Speed Preorders - EA announces a bonus for Need for Speed: SHIFT, where if you preorder the coming installment in the racing series through Gamestop you'll receive exclusive access to the BMW E92 M3 GT2
  • Bones Removed from WoW China - China have allowed a partial re-release of World of Warcraft with some changes made. Mainly the removal of bones, those damn capitalist skeletons!
  • Konami Reissuing Old PS2 Games - Konami has confirmed to Eurogamer that it is reissuing some of its PlayStation 2 titles. Those PS2 games are Suikoden Tactics, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. And they will soon be joined by Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4.
  • Rumor: Six Days in Fallujah Dev to Close - Earlier this week Atomic Games admitted that they had let go of an unknown number of their team members after not being able to find a new publisher for their true-to-life military shooter Six Days in Fallujah. Now IndustryGamers is reporting via unnamed sources that the situation may be more than just a few team members being layed off. According to their source the team, which before the layoffs numbered 75 people at their Raleigh, North Carolina offices, now consists of less than a dozen people.
  • Blizzcon Sold Out in 8 Minutes - Blizzcon tickets went on sale this last week and within 8 minutes they were sold out of 20,000 tickets at $125 a piece. Blizzcon will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center in California on August 20th - 21st.
  • QuakeCon 2009 Schedule Released - The so-called "Woodstock of Gaming," QuakeCon spans four days this year--August 13 through August 16, 2009--at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas. As always, attendance is free. The full schedule of events follows here.
  • Best Buy Pricematching Used Games? - A CAG user has allegedly snapped a photo of a new sign up at Best Buy in Utah. It reads as follows: 'Why buy used when you can buy new? Best Buy now price matches NEW video games at USED prices from Gamestop or Game Crazy' This is pretty epic if true. #1) Your money will now be going to the developers and publishers, as opposed to the store. #2) No more dealing with potentially scratched discs or missing books. #3) No more Gamestop. FYI, Best Buy is currently testing its own used game kiosks. The automated machines will allow for the buying and selling of used games.

Rainbow Six with a different name, how boring. Sick of carbon copy games. One less off the shelf can only be good.

I like that Best Buy thing... I'll have to check that out.
