AMD Launches 'Console-like' PC Hardware Label - tech|
| (hx) 04:54 PM CEST - May,19 2008 | Hardware manufacturer
AMD today
unveiled a new plan to simplify the process of determining PC gaming system
requirements for mainstream consumers. Titled
AMD Game!,
the program will allow gamers to purchase hardware which meets a certain set of
minimum requirements. New systems and parts will be labeled with AMD Game! or
AMD! Game Ultra badges, meant to inform customers that the machine can capably
play _today's games_. Those who buy the AMD Game! certified systems will
then be assured a standard of performance when playing recently released games.
The company plans to update the specifications every six months to keep in line
with current industry trends, though the name of the labels will remain the
same.
It's a nice idea but we'll have to see what happens when the next AMD Game! and
AMD Ultra! specifications are rolled out in six months' time. They simply must
change the name or else retailers will have two entirely different sets of
hardware with the same label printed on the packaging. If the new name is
anything other than AMD Game! Spring-Summer '09, well, we will probably soon end
up with the same level of customer confusion as we have now... |

No, you cannot play crysis with your intel(or amd..whatever) integrated video driver.

Also they must work very closely with those developers, aside from a stupid logo, so the new games can take full advantage of AMD hardware.
| Sabot | (03:54 PM CEST - May,20 2008 ) | pointless idea whilst PC hardware has no shelf life....
As i have commented on before, hardware needs to remain stable for several years for this to work -in other words the same as a *console*!
A 'one stop shop', then all you buy is the games without hardware worries.
The other idea is that AMD *makes* the WHOLE PC and then sells it with a minimum guarantee that it WILL play games for several years.
Too much old/new bits and pieces floating around in everyones PCs at the moment. That's why the PC is a loser as a stable platform games machine AND why dev's WASTE time churning out games that play minimum SPECS, when they should be running MAX specs at point of sale -just like a console, except it being a PC.
