S.T.A.L.K.E.R. isn't using stolen art after all? - briefly
(hx) 01:24 AM CEST - Apr,17 2007
The internet was a-storm over the weekend with rumours that textures had been found in STALKER's game engine that looked similar to textures found in Half-Life 2 and Doom 3. The folks at The Inquirer have now learned that, while the assets are identical, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. may not have "borrowed" them from the other two games. According to The Inquirer, the water texture that was found in both S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Half-Life 2 actually comes from a texture pack sold by Marlin Studios. Marlin lists both Valve as well as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. publisher THQ as 'noteworthy users' of its textures along with companies like Electronic Arts, Konami, and Epic Games. Besides, some tThe Inquirer's sources have discovered that S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s lights_impflash texture that was allegedly stolen from Doom 3 is actually a generic impact flash texture - not a texture specific to the Doom 3's Imp monster. The site doesn't mention that texture's provenance, however.

I never believed a single word of the original story anyways; it's common to seek the resources of pre-made texture packs for basic elements anyways, in the same respect that artists involved with photo manipulation utilize stock photography.
Whoever started the original article needs a slap in the face to get their facts right before spitting words all over the net.
It gave great publicity for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. though :)

Seeing as Valve used pre-made stuff too, what's not to say that some CS sounds were from public or licensed sample banks that GSC used as well?
A simple connection can be made there hairball2, because I don't think these developers are interested in stealing or putting anyone under the possible threat of legal action.

People need to stop jumping to conlusions.

Glad to hear that the STALKER guys weren't in the wrong on this one.

God, who cares? lol. Just publicity one way or another. I agree, originator of the news should get a kick to the balls. Slap in face, is too light.
