The patch will F up lots of things on your computer. AVG and Setpoint stop working upon reboot. I removed it.

If anyone has the problems like I had tonite, backout the patch, remove your video audio drivers, AVG and setpoint, install the ms patch and then make sure to install the latest of everything. I noticed 100.xx nvidia drivers were out so I snatched those tonite. So far everything working again.

After installing that patch initially, most of my startup programs croaked and my directX for some reason went bad. Direct3d tests all failed with some strange error. I've heard a few say their onboard audio is shot and the fix didn't fix it. I'm sure there will be lots of interesting problems.

I can't wait to get to work tomorrow.

Yes, a patch for a patch: When you start a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2, the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel may not start. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:

Rthdcpl.exe - Illegal System DLL Relocation

The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\Windows\System32\Hhctrl.ocx occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

This problem occurs when the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel (Rthdcpl.exe) by Realtek Semiconductor Corporation is installed.

This problem may occur after you install security update 925902 (MS07-017) and security update 928843 (MS07-008). The Hhctrl.ocx file that is included in security update 928843 and the User32.dll file that is included in security update 925902 have conflicting base addresses. This problem occurs if the program loads the Hhctrl.ocx file before it loads the User32.dll file.

Yep, breaks various things. I had sent a email to a few friends and it seems the patch is not limited in terms of what it broke. In my case I backed it out, re-did my drivers(even if they were same version) and then re-installed patch and seems to work. Reason I re-installed the patch was because I think it still broke things as I was having mysterious issues, so I figured what choice do I have? The error is always the same, like the Realtek problem for other apps. For example, AVG wouldn't start at all.

101.02 Forceware seem to be pretty good(was running latest WHQL before). For those that don't know you can get em at Guru3d.

Problems resolved by re-installing AVG and Logitech Setpoint. Suggest to anyone to just install MS patch and de-install your failing applications and re-install them. Ignore any weird errors. More intriguing was that I had no viruses and, no spyware found. Very strange.
