TechNews - R600XTX Pictured & Benchmarked - tech|
| (hx) 02:56 AM CET - Mar,21 2007 |
- Retail R600XTX Pictured & Benchmarked -
It looks like
the R600XTX is slightly faster than 8800GTX!
- Nvidia Secret Weapon : GeForce 8950GX2 - The 7950GX2 is by far
the most comfortable multi-GPU arrangemnet on the market, with invisible SLI
thanks to a certain bridge chip.
Looks like the
8950GX2 follows a similar vein, just what owners of 24- or 30-inch
monitors want.
- R700 scheduled for Q1/2008 - There're no details about
R700 only that
it will support DirectX 10.1 and Shader model 4. I'm not saying they
can't, but I'm just doubting that the R700 will be out on time. The R600 has
already been delayed this year...
- ATi R600 Ruby Technology Video -
The demo is
about three minutes long and shows Ruby riding in a helicopter,
snowboarding, and ordering a short-range missile strike from a futuristic
underground computer system with Minority Report-style controls -
impressive! In other news,
VR-Zone says Radeon
X2900 graphics cards will have a built-in Theater 200 video processing
chip-the very same one that was once in AMD's All-in-Wonder series graphics
cards
- 8600GTS/GT benchmarked - The raw scores are 5500 3DMark06 for the
GTS and 4800 for the GT, blurred slightly to protect the guilty. That is the
good part.
The bad part is when you start using heavy textures, performance drops off
notably.
- Compro VideoMate V600 External TV Tuner - HDTV up to 1680x1050 -
This latest
little gem can handle display outputs of up to 1680x1050! Of course this
is a widescreen format, so those without this luxury item can still get a
display output of 1600x1200. Very impressive indeed!
- The future of Creative Labs and the sound card market -
There's no doubt
that the X-Fi is a fantastic piece of hardware, but its lack of
particular features is most definitely starting to hurt its sales
- OCZ's mind-control system examined -
The Neural
Impulse Actuator is essentially a headband with three neural sensor pads
that make contact with the user's forehead plus a wire that pokes out at the
back and plugs into the host machine. Neural signals are decoded and
combined with each other to create unique commands based on the specific
permutation of brain, eye, and facial muscle activity. The biggest market
for this device will be gamers as they will be able to use the neural
impulse actuator in combination with the a mouse to control the shooting,
jumping, running, etc. in FPS games.
- Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC - video -
Q1 Ultra runs on
a 800MHz Pentium M processor, 1GB DDR2-400 SO-DIMM and has a 60GB 1.8"
HDD.
- FireWire vs USB - Nevertheless,
the raw
speed of FireWire is unbeatable by USB. Even the USB 2.0 standard is
unable to beat the real world performance of earlier FireWire 400. Though
technically USB 2.0 is a 480 Mbit/s interface and FireWire 400 is a 400
Mbit/s interface, but many read and write tests to the same hard drive using
FireWire and USB 2.0 shows that FireWire 400 is still significantly faster
than USB 2.0.
- Firefox 2.0.0.3 Released -
This minor
update fixes FTP PASV port-scanning bug.
- More Useful Software -
BitComet 0.85 (changelog)
| DivX for Windows
6.5.1.1 (release
notes) |
Logitech G5 new firmware |
Nero 7 Premium Reloaded 7.8.5.0 (release
notes) |
Realtek HD Audio Drivers 1.62 for Vista (ALC880 Series).
- Google adding Themes to the personalized homepage -
The personalized homepage
has added a new feature: Themes (if you couldn't tell by the title). Most of
them will change dynamically depending on your location. Awesome stuff, but
I'll stick with the classic :-)
- Microsoft Disappoints Zune Users Waiting For Firmware Update -
Last month, Cesar Menendez announced on his Zune Insider blog that the Zune
1.3 firmware update would be released on March 20, today. On the most recent
blog entry, also marked March 20, there is no firmware update release.
Instead of a download
link, Mr. Menendez contacted Zune's release manager who replied: I
can't comment on the exact date just yet, but it will be soon, as it's in
the final testing and processes to get released.
- HD-DVD Finished By 2008? -
Some analysts
are already giving the next-gen disk war win over to Blu-Ray thanks to
sales of Blu-Ray movies now outpacing HD-DVD movies by three to one
- PS3 1.60 Firmware to Add Background Downloading - The powerful
PlayStation 3 will soon be getting the ability to simultaneously walk and
chew gum, so to speak. An upcoming system update to bring the PS3 firmware
to version
1.6 will give users the ability to download files from the PlayStation
Network in the background.
- Xbox Live hacked, accounts stolen -
Online
gaming forums are buzzing with reports that Xbox Live accounts linked to
Microsoft's Windows Live ID service are being hijacked by malicious hackers.
- Multi-angle scanner sees objects from multiple perspectives -
The basis
of the scanner design involves a parabolic mirror, two flat mirrors and
detector. A 15-mW helium-neon laser shines an array of parallel light
beams onto a rotating prism, which angles the beams toward the parabolic
mirror. After bouncing off the two flat mirrors and the object, the light
travels back to the parabolic mirror and finally enters the detector, which
separates the different angles of light before they are superimposed to form
an image. A high-speed prototype could perform 4000 scans per second.
- New research reveals subtlety of superconductivity - Millions of
people are flocking toArgonne scientists helped lead the superconducting
revolution 20 years ago this month with their landmark solution of the
structure of the most widely known high-temperature superconductor
YBa2Cu3O7.
Now, they
have solved another tantalizing superconductivity mystery: how a subtle
change in the structure of so-called electron-doped superconductors switches
the phenomenon of superconductivity on and off.
- Virtual worlds are 'worth $1bn' - The market for
massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs) in the West
is now worth more than $1bn.
- Remember floppy disks? 1992 PSA against illegal copying -
Old
good Hilarious PSA from 1992 with a rapper singing "Don't Copy that
Floppy!" Get ready to hit the floor laughing -
check it out!
- Wikimedia Chooses Picture of the Year -
That's a great picture, nature at its most beautiful.
- How I Became A Music Pirate -
He obviously hasn't discovered social-bookmarking websites yet ;)
- Pirates of the Caribbean 3 Trailer (ENGLISH) - I gotta say I
think this looks pretty sweet for a trailer. The Sword fight on the sail
mast near the end looks fantastic.
Check it out!
