Tech Reading - G80 in Mid-November - tech|
| (hx) 12:00 AM CEST - Oct,03 2006 |
- Kentsfield's successor named: Yorkfield - Unlike Kentsfield,
Yorkfield is
designed from the ground up for quad-core, and will be manufactured on
Intel's upcoming 45-nm manufacturing process.
- Kentsfield quad-core performance previewed - Which was really
interesting to note was that
the new Core 2
Extreme QX6700 CPU runs at a lower clock rate (2.66 GHz against 2.93 GHz
on Core 2 Extreme X6800) and yet was between 38% and 82% faster for those
tasks. So if we had two CPUs running at the same clock rate, the performance
difference would be a lot higher.
- Sapphire Radeon X1300 XT Overclocked Edition 256Meg - Although this
card is a little slow getting onto the retail market, it will be a popular
card seeing it will be priced extremely well and yet
will still have a
performance punch to keep the occasional gamer more than happy
- NVIDIA To Launch GF 8800 Mid-November - Nvidia is expected to
announce the
world's first DirectX 10-compliant graphics chip, the GeForce 8800
(codenamed G80), in the middle of November, graphics card makers revealed.
- Pictures of Nvidia's G80 hit the web - From what I tell from the
pictures, the card
will end up being really hot as it needs a water-cooling to calm the
temperature down. It also needs two six-pin PCIe power connectors to power the
beast.
- Ageia to release PCI-Express PhysX card - Ageia, the company who
looked to make waves in the 3D community with the introduction of physics
processing cards as an addon, is announcing
the release of a new PhysX card. This one is particularly interesting
because they have finally moved away from the PCI bus and are introducing the
latest card as a PCI Express variant.

Here's a 14 minute Havok 4.0 demo to share courtesy of YouTube and someone
who attended the CEDEC Developer's Conference. Great stuff for anyone that
hasn’t seen it!!
- Mini Linux PC breaks $100 barrier -
The TU-40 is
passively cooled, comes with 128MB of RAM, and can run lightweight
versions of Linux, such as Puppy, the company says.
- Liteon 160P6S DVD Burner -
One
inexpensive choice that might interest you is Liteon's 160P6S, a
relatively new 16x DVD burner. Sporting a respectable range of burning speeds
and media types along with a very low price and Liteon's reputation for
quality, this might be a burner worthy of replacing your old one, or finally
convincing those few of you left who only have CD burners to quit
procrastinating.

software vendor has
a full-page ad in today's Financial Times which berates Microsoft.
- HP buys out Voodoo PC -
HP was selected as
an ideal strategic partner after Sood and his brother talked to various
manufacturers and system OEMs including Dell. In other news,
HP uses Sony battery parts, too, but it is not recalling them. The company
believes it is safe because it reviewed and rejected Sony battery parts for
nearly a year before buying any, spokesman Mike Hockey says.
- IBM And Lenovo Recall 526,000 Batteries - If you own an IBM or
Lenovo laptop, you should know that
the companies have
decided to recall 526,000 Sony batteries. Wow, how many millions of Sony
batteries have been recalled so far?
- Ledtronics LED Bulbs -
These high quality
and patented LED bulbs can directly replace Type 2 incandescent bulbs
allowing a long lifespan up to 100,000 hours. Furthermore, these bulbs are
resistant to shock and vibrations, and will not burnout from frequently being
switched on and off.
- Fossible Bluetooth Watches Announced -The
bluetooth-powered MBW-100 watch will vibrate when a user has a phone call
-- A click of a button will transfer the call directly to voicemail. Even
though users will not be able to answer with the watch, it is fully compatible
with Bluetooth headsets.

on their website. This is a fully functioning GPS attachment for the PSP that
not only provides standard GPS functionality but also works with games as
well.

of the improvement in a performance of a personal computer. The window zoom is
10%, so the each cell can not be seen. But it is A CELL.
- Audi Unleashes Its Ferrari Killer -
Audi's R8 is a
direct challenge to Porsche's $100,000 Carerra 911, with more horsepower

| djRom | (05:26 AM CEST - Oct,03 2006 ) | | The brain cell and universe comparison is quite...interesting. I mean, what if we are living in someone's brain cell right now? Scary thought. | |
