EA snaps up Battlefield developer - briefly
(hx) 05:36 PM CEST - Oct,02 2006
Publishing giant EA has acquired Digital Illusions after the Stockholm-based developer’s sterling work on Battlefield 2142, set for release on October 20th. Digital Illusions will now become a fully-integrated EA studio, and will be charged with the task of building upon the Battlefield franchise as well as working on new PC and next-generation titles.
"EA is thrilled to officially welcome this team of incredibly talented people and a globally recognized game franchise," said Paul Lee, President of EA's Worldwide Studios. "The DICE studio has strong opportunity for growth as we build the Battlefield franchise and other new products. We're confident that our creative approach and business leadership principles are well matched to share future success."

Patrick Soderlund, DICE CEO, said, "Being part of the EA studio team is a great step forward that will help us continue to deliver new games and new franchises to DICE fans. We've been working very closely with EA for the past five years and this is a very natural step for us as we move into the next generation of gaming." Patrick Soderlund will become an EA Studio General Manager, maintaining responsibility for the DICE studio and taking on additional creative responsibilities. The DICE leadership team will continue in their roles in Stockholm.
So how long till everyone leaves and EA quietly shuts the studio down? :-]

And from Heaven the lyres of the Angels fell silent, from its deepest Sanctuary, the Empyrean Rose shead its petals. The Thrones stopped their movement as the Heart of Creation fell still as well.

Yeah - maybe not as bad, but still bad enough...

Thanks EA for continuing your Borg-ish Assimilation routines!
We are EA - resistance is futile - your studio and employies will be assimilated...

Bah!

Man all I hear is how people couldn't give a crap about 2142 and how lots have already left BF2 behind. Their swallowing up DICE, was more than obvious to me. To me it's, Who cares?

XXXX: Which is beside the point.

The point is, rather, EA. Ergo - their aweful tendency to swallow up anything they touch.

It was a fair while since I cared about Dice in another sense that they are a very successful Swedish game developer - which is about the only pride I can pretend to give to anything arguably Swedish.

Thus the only reason I'll try 2142 is because of mechs - those wonderous walking mechanical battle gods... mmmm glorious...

But I doubt it will save a re-textured version of BF2...

Mechs?.. pfff. Who cares?.. DICE? Games made? Who cares...Again, pretty bloody obvious EA would buy em out.

i already pre baught my 2142 yes i know its pritty much jsut a mod of BF2 but i just baught it till quake wars comes out..
thats somthing a little more original then 2142..
the mechs in 2142 are sad.. they have chain drivn mini guys or w/e
dont you think they have somthing a little bit better on mechs in 2142?

they needed to copy mechwarrior or somthing.

Quake Wars, yeah that might run decent on my box. Better to me than 2142...I already bought that BF2 junk a while back, not gonna make another mistake...The best was 1942 and they should have stopped after that instead of these skin jobs and incremental lag.
