(hx) 01:28 PM CEST - Jun,14 2006
  • GSC Game World has released new screenshots from Heroes of Annihilated Empires, the upcoming fantasy RTS game that's due for release later this year
Rome Total War Alexander Interview - FiringSquad has posted an interview with Creative Assembly's studio marketing manager Ian Roxburgh to find out more about their plans for Rome Total War Alexander, an online-only expansion for their acclaimed historical strategy game.
  • Scott Miller Prey Interview - GameProducer.net has posted an interview with Scott Miller of 3D Realms. Miller is asked about his role as CEO of the company, and the role in the the upcoming PC/Xbox360 game, Prey.
  • Micro Machines V4 trailer - Codemasters has released the first video of MICRO MACHINES V4. The gamehas now gone gold and is speeding towards its June 30th launch date for the PC, PS2, PSP and NDS.
  • The Witcher trailer - This is the second part of the E3 gameplay demonstration, sporting some five minutes of footage to illustrate storyline features.
  • Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade movie - This high-res trailer demonstrates the Necron Monolith in two minutes of in-game footage.
  • CellFactor - Updated PhysX Tech Demo - This updated tech demo (467MB) features the AGEIA PhysX level we have seen demonstrated in the past few trailers. This demo for the Reality engine based FPS works best with an AGEIA physX card and features various of the weapons to use on tons of barrels.
  • Penumbra Demo - Penumbra is a horror adventure game (196MB) featuring state of the art graphics and makes heavy use of physics. Penumbra was created as a technology development project, with the aim to explore new uses of physics in games.
  • Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines unofficial patch v2.4 - As always, this is an unsupported, third-party patch, and this release includes another dozen gameplay tweaks and bug fixes as detailed in the meticulously formatted change notes.
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in Q1/2007 - GSC Game World officially confirmed the release date of the long-awaited S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl survival FPS as fixed for Q1 2007. Further release details are expected later. Some new scans from the game can be found here (thanks Nosferatu)
  • New Oblivion Module Thursday - Mehrunes' Razor is a quest through a dungeon that will be released on Thursday for $2.00. Word is: "Conquer one of the deepest and most challenging dungeons in all of Cyrodiil to claim this fearsome weapon."
  • World of Diablo & World of StarCraft? - F-13.net is carrying a story that reports  that Blizzard will be making a massively multiplayer game for each of its major franchises: 'All Blizzard franchises will become MMOGs.'  However, when asked by Shacknews to comment on the alleged statement, a senior publicist from Vivendi said simply, "That's the first I've heard of it." After being referred to developer Blizzard, Shacknews received a similar response. Until any further announcements are made, consider this a rumor and nothing more.
  • GTA IV Rumors Begin to Circulate - The rumors turned out to be ideas that should be obvious anyway. One of them is that "Dan Houser will be writing the script." Dan wrote GTA2, GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas and others, so it should come as no surprise that he will be writing the biggest GTA game since GTA III. Well, we will see :) GTA IV will be released on the XBOX and PS3 on October 16, 2007 in the United States and October 19, 2007 in Europe for the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3. There has been no confirmation on a PC release yet, but don't believe the people that say "there won't be a PC version after the modding incident with San Andreas and the 'hot coffee' thing."
  • PS3 to See Die Shrink in 2007 - Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi revealed that PlayStation 3's Cell will be switching to a more efficient manufacturing process at some point in 2007. The chip will switch from its current 90nm process to a 65nm process. The change should soften the per-unit financial hit taken as a result of the system's high manufacturing costs. In other news, Sony's online gaming service will likely feature free online play, according to comments from SCE president Ken Kutaragi. Article also talks briefly about Sony's content distribution plans
  • DS Lite Sells 10 Times More Than PSP - For the week ending May 28 Japanese hardware sales figures show that the Nintendo DS outsold the PSP by a factor of 10. The DS Lite sold 295,103 units, while the PSP managed to sell 27,191.
  • More backward compatible games on Xbox 360 - But don't get too excited because most games probably won't be on your most wanted list.
  • The Best Games Never Published - TwitchGuru explores the video game industry's development hell to find the greatest games never published.
  • Chris Crawford: "Video Games are Dead" - Crawford worked as a game designer at Atari until 1984 and also penned the classic The Art of Computer Game Design. For Chris Crawford, gaming is now lifeless: "Has anybody noticed that we don't appeal to the general public? Has anybody thought that perhaps it might be a good thing?"

Those STALKER screens looked pretty good. Too bad for them by the time it releases everybody will be buying crysis instead.

The Best Games Never Published article was entertaining to read! But Chris Crawford: "Video Games are Dead" was a gem really! It's not like I hunt for articles like that on the web and can't find them, but I never stumbled across any accidentally. Very interesting reading.
HX, where do you get this stuff? :)

Heroes of Annihilated Empires looks extremely nice.

Crysis is amazing, but man, those STALKER shots were great, it's the atmosphere the game will hopefully produce, should be vastly different to Crysis in a 'unique' way, so I don't think it will hurt sales too significantly.
