Valve issued the latest weekly update where the topic is the whole Episode 1/2 thing:
As we've mentioned before, we've been hard at work on the continuation of Half-Life 2 for some time now. Soon, as part of the upcoming Half-Life 2: Episode One, you'll find out about what happened to the Citadel after the end of HL2, what happened to your nemesis Breen, and how Alyx managed to survive the explosion at the game's end. You'll also learn a lot more about Alyx, since nearly the entire episode is spent with her at your side.

During the development of Half-Life 2, we at Valve were frustrated at how long it took us (six years!) to ship the game. With that in mind , the decision was made to try an episodic approach to the next Half-Life products, each designed to reveal new story, gameplay, and the latest Source technology in four to six hour experiences.

omg gimme a BREAK!!! what a crock of crap this Episode 1 is.. talk about grasping at straws to try and make a little more money.. Valve just makes me shake my head at how pathetic they've become.. Wohoa how Alex survived the blast!! What happened to the Citadel! Well I'm gonna run out and buy it because that's been bothering me since I finished HL2.. PFFFFF! Thanks Valve for clarifying how much of a POS you are as is your BS Episode 1 "I need more money" expansion... Oh by the way Valve, people are still using aimbots and wallhacks on your game.. But I know you don't give a shit.

Valve is a business, businesses aim to make money (SURPRISE!). If you don't find the story interesting, don't buy it, no one is twisting your arm - forcing you to buy it.

I really liked Half-Life 2, and when I got a new computer I played it for a second time to see the graphics at their max and it was fun but I wouldn't play it more than twice it just never changes

However I will buy the episodes because I do like the story of half-life and want to see where it goes and I did really enjoy the game, maybe not as much as some other games like F.E.A.R. but even that has no replayability.

Oh and I personally don't care about hackers in CS:S or DOD:S because I never play them I just don't like them, F.E.A.R. online was fun for an hour then it got boring, I hear battlefield 2 has a good online I have yet to buy it to see.

You see.
Valve should release two versions of each episodes. The reason why this one is 20 bux is because they added an mp feature. DM :o new maps and shit. Should've kept it sp only and make it 10 bux. If you aren't playing the MP then why should you pay for it?

I do agree. Half Life single player has no replay value. At all. Multiplayer gave valve the success they have today even though they're buggy. Single Player is just a single run through. Single player shouldn’t be worth more than multiplayer.

The shot reveals too much. They should've given a pic of Gordon. Should've kept alyx's survival story hidden from the moment hl2 ended. Y'know? Keep the story somewhat... enjoyable.

Yessum is correct, VALVE are no different than MS in that it's 'one size fits all' mentality.
I don't care about MP! Only ever played HL1 a couple of times online.
Also since i play SP, i cannot be arsed with this 'modern' pleb idea of paying periodicaly for 'drip fed' episodes. It's not TV???!!! Hell if i want to watch what happens in '24' i'll buy the whole boxed set set rather than sit every Friday (or whatever) like an android fixed like clock-work for the next dozen-or-whatever-weeks!!!

VALVE have done this totaly all wrong, i can just imagine that they are so far up their backsides with STEAM that they don't give a shit about the *ordinary* punter in the street that just wants to see the end of (or back of!) HL2 and then move on... My world doesn't revolve around VALVE HL2 -which they (VALVE) obviously think it does. Sure i wanted to see the *conclusion* of HL2, but this monetary attitude has made me resent this company beyond belief!
I have a shed load of new games coming out; Oblivion,OFP2,M:TW2 that will take my new time up.
As per usual; if people feel so strongly against this 'rip off' then just don't buy it! It's the only way companies like this will learn -although America is most definately to blame for endorsing downloads by way of STEAM... What were you guys thinking!!??
Hence why your getting countless episodes released on STEAM! If people had ignored it then we wouldn't require this utter crap of being connected to the net to PLAY SP!!!!!! AND VALVE would have just released the ENDING of HL2 in one go because it would have been TOO COSTLY to release episodes to shops...congratulations guys......
