New PS3 Info From PSM - console|
| (hx) 04:26 PM CET - Feb,03 2006 |
A recent thread over at the official Playstation boards has
some scans from an article
in the March issue of PSM that detail a few of the features of Sony's upcoming
console. The unit is going to also function as a digital vidoe recorder
apparently, as well as receive regular firmware updates over the internet.
key points:
PS3 will have online service that goes beyond xbox live
PS3 will be a DVR
It will connect with PSP
There are alot of games being worked on for it right now in the US (alot
more then what people know about)
The final PS3 dev kit is alot faster than they thought (according to the
developer)
The PS3 will have an itunes type service to let you download HI DEF
movies, music, etc
The PS3 will take the media center functionality the 360 has even further
PS3 will serve as a location free player for the psp, means you can watch
the dvd's that you have in your psp on your psp (from anywhere in the world),
or any other video files you have on your PS3, though this is still only being
planned.
PSP will be able to send its files straight to the psp from anywhere in
the world, and it can also control its DVR functionalities
Firmware updates will add more functionality, much like with the psp
The Blu Ray Player functionality doesnt cost as much as a stand alone
player because the Cell and RSX can take care of alot of the stuff the PS3
will need to do to be able to read the disks
Fall release date for PS3, no release date for online service, but
expected to launch w/ the system

| yessum | (05:57 PM CET - Feb,03 2006 ) | | I wish I had a time machine. I'd go ahead in time to find out all the info about revolution and i'll be like    8) | |
| veistran | (09:09 PM CET - Feb,03 2006 ) | | Looks like they've got the hype train rolling. It'll be interesting to see what turns out to be vaporware and what doesn't as it were. | |
| Jelster | (03:26 AM CET - Feb,04 2006 ) | Lets see how popular the 3rd Sony machine will be when its next to impossible to crack. Piracy is a balance, when not excessive it helps to sell units and get a lot of word of mouth out there. Sure excessive piracy does no good at all but also this rock hard lock down is just as bad.
Put it this way, if you have a friend who downloads MP3s. Listens to them, tells you what great songs are out there, hell even lets you listen to a few on lunch break. Well, not having the technical skills to download them yourself, or you're just a bit flush this month, you go buy the CD and are happy. Thats a sale due to piracy. IMHO its what made the PS1 (in later years) and definately the PS2 big sellers.
Chop piracy off at the knees and stick a spike up its arse and you remove those mouthy people who earn you sales. You better hope you got AAA titles to sell the system with cos you're going to need that hype to get people talking.
Sorry I'm rambling, the other stuff is typical Sony come lately crap they need to chuck out there until they can get "OOOooooo" footage on tv comercials and 95% of the population stop thinking about it.
Anyway, to join the real excitment. Revolution all the way baby! Its the only sure buy on my list. | |
