25 To Life Interview - interview
(hx) 08:56 AM CET - Jan,16 2006
Gamecloud has conducted an interview with Eidos producer Sam Newman as he taks about 25 to Life (PC/PS2/Xbox), their urban theme action third person shooter which will ship to stores this week. Here's a taster:
Gamecloud - The game features two playable sides. First, what can you tell us about the criminal side, including what kind of special weapons and abilities they will have?

Sam Newman - Choosing to play a criminal gives the player a different set of goals and abilities than the Law Enforcement side. Of course, criminals have a unique set of clothing, tattoos, jewelry and other style customizations to choose from, but they also have several unique weapons like molotovs and Russian assault rifles. The main ability that sets the criminals apart from the cops is using the civilians as shields. This makes it very difficult for the police, and they will often have to revert to non lethal force to save the hostage.

Gamecloud - The game is being made mostly for online play. What sort of multiplayer features will 25 to Life have?

Sam Newman - The multiplayer features of 25 to life are really incredible. There is an extensive Clan and Friend system built in so players can organize directly within the game. All the players' stats and scores are automatically tracked and you can also see them http://stats.25tolife.com. Players can create custom "tags" and spray them just about anywhere in the levels, marking territory or taunting a recent kill. The game supports voice communication through a headset for all the platforms so teams can plan and trash talk.

There're only two clean pop-ups per day - no Active-X crap.

The "sponsored links"...well, I admit they are a bit annoying. But they're clearly labeled as sponsored links, they're far less annoying than distracting graphical ads...

When this one month test is over, I'll decide what to try next. Maybe I'll drop these links. Maybe I'll keep 'em. Maybe I'll refine 'em. It depends on feedback and how the experience goes.
