Gaming Notebook Roundup - tech|
| (hx) 06:07 PM CET - Jan,12 2006 |
Trusted
reviews have posted a Gaming Notebook Roundup - they compared the AJP M575A,
Evesham Voyager C720 Plus and Rock Extreme CT models.
The AJP M575A is equipped with a higher resolution 1,920 x 1,200 display,
making it much more suitable for work as well as play. The processor is the
highly capable Pentium M 760, which operates at 2GHz. This is coupled with 1GB
of Kingston DDR II memory. These memory modules run at the slightly slower
timings of 4-4-4-12, whereas the Evesham and Rock run at 4-4-4-11. This
difference is barely noticeable though, with the AJP matching the Evesham in the
memory portion of PC Mark. Included is a 100GB 7,200rpm SATA hard drive which is
plenty of storage space and quite nippy too, showing a fairly significant
improvement over the Rock's hard drive performance in PC Mark.
Evesham Voyager C720 Plus is a very similar specification to the Rock
Extreme CT, based on the same Intel Pentium M 770 (2.13GHz) processor. There are
two notable differences between the machines. One is the use a 1,680 x 1,050
resolution screen, instead of the higher resolution 1,920 x 1,200 display on the
Rock, and the other is the lid, which is slightly less interesting to look at.
With 1GB of Samsung memory and a 100GB 7,200RPM SATA hard drive, this machine is
highly specified and will cope with almost anything thrown at it. Considering
the £1,718.99 inc. VAT price point, this can be taken as a given.
Rock Extreme CT - From the outside, the Rock Extreme CT is slightly
different to the AJP and Evesham, in that it has a considerably nicer looking
lid. There is also an option upon purchase to have a lid with "Rock" etched into
it. This might sound a little off-putting, but it is actually quite nice. The
differences don't end there, with more changes on the inside. Like the Evesham,
the Rock runs the Intel Pentium M 770 (2.13GHz) processor and like the AJP it
has a 1,920 x 1,200 display. The memory installed is 1GB of high quality Corsair
goodness. This choice becomes obvious when you look inside the BIOS as there are
options for overclocking.
