 S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Interview - interview
(hx) 05:50 PM CEST - Aug,16 2005
Fan site Stalker-portal.ru has posted a brief interview with GSC Game World's Senior PR Manager Oleg Yavorsky talking about S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, their upcoming first-person for publisher THQ. The questions concern mini-games, thefunctionionality of the so called "Smart Terrain System", the Blowout, updates on the development status and the in-game music. Here's a taster:
Q3: In the official F.A.Q. it is said that a "Blowout" is the period of time when the Zone changes. How does it change?

Oleg: A Blowout occures randomly once an in-game week. After each Blowout the entire territory of the Zone is covered with new anomalies arround which artifacts are generated. Therefore, the player can gather artefacts on previously explored territories, which did not contain any before. However, during a Blowout it is higly recommended not to go outside, but to find a safe location in order to be protected against dangerous energetic waves of the Blowout.

Q4: It is known that the territory of the Zone covers more than 30 square kilometres and represents somewhat of a long rectangle consisting of 18 locations. (Oblivion-Lost.com's note: In fact, the Zone has an irregular shape, not a rectangular one.) How many of the 18 locations are ready today?

Oleg: All of the locations are ready. At the moment the team is focusing entirely on perfecting the gameplay.

Perfecting game play.. pfff. Whatever. Either these guys are hugely bad programmers or something is wrong. They said this like over a year ago. Wohoa.. and it should be changed from 'upcomming' to 'distant' . Cuz we're all looking at summer of next year to see this title, though they only gave you their 'dream date'. And by next summer, who cares? lol

I would rather wait another 2 years and have a kick ass polished game than have them release it today and plays like crap.

They shouldn't have announced it so early and post so much media so often if they're not up to the challenge.

well, both doom 3 and halflife 2 were announced YEARS ahead of the release, and tech demos were shown, screenshots, movies etc.

problem is most have been waiting almost 4 years for this title. Hell I played a ALPHA version of this game 2 years ago! LOL! By the time this comes out I'll likely be too wrapped up in other fantastic games. These guys have hurt themselves with delay more than they can imagine. HL2 is a different story, people were still into and playing HL1, Doom3 and HL have a hell of a lot more audience than STALKER. If you think STALKER is coming out bug free, ur dreaming. In real life lingo, the delays are actually there are seious problems with the game, lots of things have to be re-written, dropped etc. Believing they are cleaning it up is what they want you to believe. Game will be buggy just like the rest. The game has likely changed so much from when they first started plastering images and movies that it's probably not even that interesting anymore. The other thing to mention, the game has been in development for X amount of years, look at the online gametypes they offer.. Plz.. DM, TDM and wait for it, wait.. Capture the "RUNE".. Wohoa! Capture the RUNE.. This game was all hype and lies. And being that I know some people affiliated with this game, it pisses me off to know they are BS'ing everyone. Maybe it will be a good game in the end, but it isn't the same game they were trying to sell you years ago. It's changed a lot.
