Friday reading - briefly|
| (hx) 06:07 PM CEST - Aug,12 2005 | I really need to step it up and beat a bunch of games I have - BloodRayne 2,
Codename Panzers Phase II and Tank T-72: Balkans in Fire, Metal Heart and
Dungeon Siege 2...damn, it looks to be a busy weekend!!!
Here's some stuff:
- Hackers slam Everquest II economy - Sony claims that a group of
hackers illegally created a huge amount of "Everquest II" currency over
the weekend, and says the players caused the game's economy to suffer 20
percent inflation in just 24 hours before being caught.
- Windows Plug-and-Play hole could give hackers complete control -
Exploit code has started appearing on hacking websites for a critical
Microsoft flaw less than three days after the patch was released. "One
exploit, released by an anonymous author, will bind a command prompt to TCP
port 8721. Users should consider
this patch highly critical, and should install it as soon as possible."
EEye has
a free scanning utility for computer users to test whether they are
vulnerable.
- OS X for Intel Hacked - Basically the new OS X for Intel has some
special electronic gizmos that allow for OS X to be installed on those Mactel
machines and not any other x86 machine. The big news is that
some people managed to crack the authentication scheme to allow for the OS
X for Intel to be
installed on any x86 machine. And the word on the street is that it was
installed on a PC notebook.
- DreamWorks Acquiring Splinter Cell Rights -
DreamWorks is close to acquiring the film rights to Tom Clancy's videogame
Splinter Cell, with Daniel Pyne (The Manchurian Candidate) attached to write
the script, says Variety.
- Online museum catalogues bad voice acting -
This site is
intended to be a constantly growing and changing museum for the study and
enjoyment of truly terrible video game voice acting in video games from the
very first CD system, the Turbografx until the present day.
- Siberian Permafrost Melting -
The sudden melting of a bog the size of France and Germany combined could
unleash billions of tonnes of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, into the
atmosphere. Western Siberia has warmed faster than almost anywhere else on the
planet, with an increase in average temperatures of some 3C in the last 40
years.
- The price of a round-trip ticket: $100 million -
The first mission by Space Adventures could happen in 2008 or 2009 and is
planned as a stepping stone to an eventual lunar landing by private citizens.
- Hangover gene controls alcohol tolerance - Scientists have
discovered
a
gene, which they've named the "hangover" gene, that controls alcohol
tolerance and time to recover from exposure to alcohol
- Grand Theft Auto player gets death penalty -
Teen Murderer Devin Moore was sentenced to death yesterday for killing
three police officers as he tried to escape from custody. While in the history
of US criminal law there is nothing unusual about this, Moore's case has
attracted a lot of attention because he claimed to be under the influence of
the violent game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. In fact he seemed to have been
inventing this alibi the moment he was caught saying the words "Life is a
video game, you have to die sometime."

I would normaly jump at a tank sim but this felt rather 'put together' like a mish-mash. i Still think M1:TP2 and SB are the kings of 'tankers' 8) | |
