The Witcher E3 Preview - preview|
| (hx) 10:27 PM CEST - May,25 2005 |
Both
GameSpot and
ReviewOutpost have posted their E3 impressions of
Witcher, Cenega's
upcoming fantasy action-RPG that uses BioWare's Aurora engine. Here's a taster:
GameSpot: CDProjekt wants to "redefine" the role-playing genre, so
while The Witcher looks like a traditional action role-playing game on the
surface, it has a bit more depth to it underneath the hood. For example, the
combat system doesn't follow the traditional role-playing game system where you
simply click on an enemy and then sit back and watch as your character swings a
sword until it is dead. Instead, the combat system is very action-oriented, so
you'll have to control the swings of the sword by clicking the mouse button.
ReviewOutpost: The game play is much like a hack and slash style RPG but is
a bit more interactive. You get different stances that you can choose during
battles. The best stance may vary depending on the situation so can't just
powerhouse your way thought the game; some battle strategy will be involved.
Also depending on the stance you're in you will have a chance to build combo
moves on the fly which is based on visual cues from your mouse cursor.
