E3: Serious Sam 2 Impressions - preview|
| (hx) 09:04 AM CEST - May,19 2005 |
PC.IGN
has posted their E3 impressions of
Serious Sam 2, the sequel
to popular arcade first person shooter. Here's a taster:
To begin with, the new engine is simply amazing. Last year we saw the engine in a demo at GDC. Seeing the interaction of the characters and the environments made us hungry to see it all running in a playable form. Some of the neat features of the physics engine are going to be a lot more impressive once we see them in real time. I mean, we've already seen the falling barrels. What we really want to see now are the destructible environments.
Moving on from that, we can also expect to see many more enemies on screen this time around. Given that the original Serious Sam was no slouch in this regard, I think most gamers will find no shortage of foes to shoot at in the sequel. Croteam is promising that the framerates are going to be even better this time around, even with the new physics, the super detailed terrain and the hundreds of enemies.
Sam will have a bit more to do this time around as there are a full 24 levels in this game. Fans should be happy about that. They'll also be happy to know that there are a wide variety of locations you can visit. The carnage will range across tropical islands, lava and ice worlds, Asian cities and even a "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" style level, complete with giant blades of grass and ants the size of trucks.
Update: Seriously! has
a
posted an exclusive 30 minutes of in-game footage (74.5MB) from Serious Sam
II, including commentary by the Serious Sam II producer. Much of the video
includes elements that were not available on the standard E3 floor demo.
