 Earth 2160 preview - preview
(hx) 01:50 AM CET - Mar,02 2005
The chaps over at PC.IGN have posted their impression from Earth 2160 (trailer), the upcoming  real-time strategy sequel by Reality Pump.  Originally planned to hit stores this December for the PC, the game is now scheduled for a release in Q2/2005. Here's a taster:
The bases are put together completely differently as well. The UCS builds their stuff in tower shapes, with different building types stacked on top of each other. The tower sections can also be transferred back and forth at any time, which is handy during a base invasion--unless you're not the UCS, of course. The ED build everything flat but have to connect all buildings with tubes. If a tube gets destroyed, you can no longer make use of that building until it's reconnected. The UCS use energy walls to protect their perimeter, while the ED use physical walls. Each faction is supposed to have pluses and minuses that balance out in the end, and it sounds like you could play each faction through and get a significantly different experience. We're also told that you'll get around 150 hours out of the single-player campaign, not counting the 25-30 multiplayer maps that are supposed to ship with retail. If that's not enough, you're going to be able to save multiplayer games server-side, which is great since Zuxxez tells us the typical match can take five hours or more.
Update: Another preview can be found on GameSpot.
