 Battlefield 2 Preview - preview
(hx) 09:46 PM CET - Jan,22 2005
Fansite TotalBF2.com has posted the English translation of a Battlefield 2 preview originally published on Swedish fansite BFCentral.de. The preview is based on playing the latest build of the upcoming multiplayer shooter sequel from Digital Illusions and Electronic Arts. Here's a taster:
Helicopters
I believe that in every interview about BF2, the question about choppers has always been there and the reason to this is the splendid balance of them in Battlefield Vietnam at the same time people generally seem to think that the physics in Desert Combat are better. The helicopters in BF2 are not similar to BF:V nor DC, the helicopters feel like helicopters are supposed to feel. The closest thing I can find to compare it with in feeling is the Hkp14 (NH90) in Silent Heroes. but still it is far away, because the helo's in BF2 feel unique compared to earlier games. One big explanation to this is that the team invited a real helicopter pilot that worked with programs for some time to get the right feel and physics. This has probably made it so that choppers will need a few seconds to lift from the ground, they must speed up the velocity on the rotors like a real helicopter.

It will be pretty difficult to "discuss-rape" with the choppers like you could in BF:V, and is going to be used like they are supposed to, support for the ground troops. If you really must compare them to the BF:V choppers, then you can describe the choppers in BF:V like "fire flapping in the air", and that's the feeling you receive after playing BF2.

Sniper I have met one, maybe two, good snipers in BF1942 and I have played for two years, so the feeling to choose the sniper in BF2 was a bit nerve-racking the first time. I spawn at the central flag on Wetlands and move up on a small little hill to get a great view over the landscape (that actually looks very beautiful), I spotted an enemy, running in a small grove a bit ahead, so I prone, aim, shoot and... hit. I was shocked, hit someone with the sniper, is that possible? I wake up from my shock and noticed that the enemy had approached me and starting to shoot at me so I acted fast, zoomed in and gave him another bullet. The sniper in BF2 is good, very good and will be used more regularly than in the previous BF games. You who played Ghost Recon will be familiar with the model.
In related news, some new screenshots can be found on PlanetBattlefield.

Great it's Sim Helicopter 2005.

Whats the point of making it so realistic that you need a pilots licence, are they going to make it a max 1-3 bullet for a kill (Depends on entry point & angle) for realism as well.

Don't know why but I don't care at all for this game, maybe cuz I'm sick of war games... ya, that's it. Graphics looks good, but lets look at BF1942 and how bloody long it took for patches.. Nah thanks, got better things to do..
