Project: Snowblind preview - preview|
| (hx) 06:12 PM CET - Jan,20 2005 |
GamesDomain,
GameSpy,
TeamXbox have posted their previews of
Project Snowblind,
the upcoming sci-fi first person shooter from Crystal Dynamics and Eidos. The
game is slated for release in February 2004 for PS2, Xbox and PC. Here's a
taster:
Starting out with an acceptable loadout, Frost packs a sidearm, shotgun, and proper assault rifle, and soon acquires a man-portable anti-armor rocket-launcher. Later still, specialized weapons appear, including flechette guns and weapons able to target multiple enemies at once. All weapons have the now obligatory "alt-fire" mode, which is sometimes but not always connected to the prime-fire mode. Grenades come in antipersonnel and anti-electronic flavor -- in fact, the game's very name stems from the electronically blinding effect of electro-magnetic pulse weaponry -- but there are some odder combinations, such as sidearms that fire bigger missiles, and shotguns able to lob "sticky bombs."
In addition to these rather expected nifties are Frost's intrinsic nanotechnology improvements. Frost can throw up a limited-duration cloaking field or an antiprojectile "dispersion field," engage a target-tracking mechanism, or bust out with the equivalent of an area-effect "bullet-time" field. Such high-tech bonuses are purportedly not actually necessary to complete the game, but these are the kinds of battle-shaping benefits that gamers love.
