Arena has released
the second deathmatch map for DOOM 3:
VIAVGA
DM2 is a DOOM 3 Deathmatch map built to accomodate large sized Deathmatch
and various sized team Deathmatch games. It is a follow up creation from
VIAVGA DM1 and it's layout and design has been influenced from lessons
learned from the original. Unlike the original, the layout and design of this
map was built from the ground up to make strong use of DOOM 3 rendering
optimization techniques (using vis portals more effectively), allowing for a
higher level of lighting and geometric detail without any significant sacrifice
on frame rates. It boasts a well lit and open free-flowing feel about it and is
fairly simple to learn due to its symetrical layout.
Incorporating original assets from DOOM 3 as well as several custom lights
and decals, VIAVGA DM2 features several stacked combat zones connected via large
open corridors and steep stairwells. Littered with strategically placed weapons
(all are featured except for the BFG), armor and ammo, there are also numerous
explosive barrels (exploding 1 second after their structural integrity is
breached) that can be moved around and pushed down stairs. An invisibility and
mega health powerup are also present.
VIAVGA DM2 accomodates large sized FFA matches and it also works well for 2
Vs 2 Team Deathmatch games. All current game types are supported. If CTF ever
becomes available this map could probably be converted to CTF relatively easily.
We are giving serious thought to making a benchmarking demo available for this
map in the near future and will probably also convert it to Quake 4 when it
arrives sometime next year (we hope).
