BioWare UnrealEngine3 Interview - interview|
| (hx) 12:04 PM CEST - Sep,20 2004 | HomeLAN
has conducted
an
interview with BioWare co-CEOs Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka as they talk
about using the upcoming next game engine from Epic, UnrealEngine3, in one of
their upcoming games. Here is a slice:
HomeLAN - Can you give us any hints at all about the UnrealEngine3
based game that you are working on?
Greg Zeschuk - While we can't go into much detail about the title yet,
it's safe to say that it will be a next-generation RPG with all of the elements
that fans have come to expect from a BioWare game. Thanks to the great work our
artists are putting into the Unreal Engine 3, this new project will be one of
the most immersive and cinematic RPG experiences on the market.
HomeLAN - Can you give us a quickie update on your two other original
games?
Ray Muzyka - Absolutely! The first, Jade Empire, is looking absolutely
amazing - it's a martial arts RPG where you get to become a martial arts master.
It's set in a fictional version of mythical China, full of magic, spirits and of
course martial arts! The combat is really fun - it's real time and you can use
over 30 fighting styles, including magic, transformation styles, martial arts
and weapons styles - so it should appeal to action fans as well as RPG fans.
BioWare's core RPG fans will definitely be pleased as well - the game has good
and evil story progression, tons of sub quests, the best virtual actors yet in
any game (full motion capture for all animations, full VO for all dialog,
realistic facial animations), great exploration and character progression - Jade
Empire is an action RPG to be published first on Xbox by Microsoft in Q1 2005.
Dragon Age is looking amazing as well - it's the spiritual successor to
BioWare's own Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, a PC fantasy RPG set in a
brand new world full of magic, noble quests, and of course the occasional dragon
or two! We haven't announced many more details on that game yet (no publisher or
release date is yet announced) but it's shaping up to be something marvelous, as
is Jade Empire. More info about both games is available at www.bioware.com.

I hope this one plays as good as it sounds so far. The last martial arts style game I played and loved was on the C64 and it was called 'Last Ninja'. 30 fighting styles sounds pretty damn tasty! | |
