 CS: Source Benchmarks - tech
(hx) 02:12 PM CEST - Aug,19 2004
DriverHeaven have posted some benchmarks of the CS: Source Beta comparing Connect 3D ATI Radeon X800 XTPE 256mb and Reference Nvidia Geforce 6800Ultra 256mb. Here's an excerpt:
Shocked is one word that comes to mind looking at these results. Where Nvidia has beaten ATI by a reasonable margin in Doom3 the results completely reverse and then some on the Source engine, a 30% performance difference ( 74fps to 52fps ) is, to be honest, a massive dissapointment if your a Geforce 6800 Ultra user. We had fully expected to have a very close contest when running the benchmarks however that has not proven to be the case, hopefully Nvidia have a new driver in the works that will bump up performance enough to make things competitive.
Another benchmarks can be found on GamersDepot and AMDZone

No surprises here. Everyone knows Gabe is ATI's little hoe. :D

And any self-respecting 6800U owner wouldn't be caught dead playing CS... the very thought disgusts me. :x

nvidia is raped by ati and really badly  and too bad to nvidia that all new games are directx games

This is retarded. If you take a look at the benchmarks of the Halflife2 Beta, you'll see the 6800 pull ahead of the x800 (HalfLife2 beta was released before the 6800, yet Valve claimed ATI still had an advantage on their engine). This is just further proof that Valve is most likely having financial problems (you can only sell the same game so many times) and is getting most of their support from ATI. Why else would they give out free coupons to an unfinished game practically a year ahead of schedule (and maybe more, since it still isn't finished). They aren't coding a game that's optimized for ATI, they are coding a game that's literally UNoptimized for NVidia. I'm not against the game itself, but when the programmers try to alienate hardware owners, thats where I draw the goddamn line.

Hx, remove that pic from the headlines :) ... it's much too embarasing :) :)

It will work like this: Nvidia puts out a new set of drivers that will boost performance with CS: Source.
Simple as that really.
The Geforce hardware is more than capable of handling the HL2 engine, so all you Geforce Ultra owners- don't worry about anything

My sentiments regarding ATI and NVIDIA aside....

a) These benchmarks contradict the countless other benchmarks that can be found.

b) The large difference they discuss is when the 6800U is running 8xAF and the X800 is running 6xAF. Of course they are going to different.

Remaining impartial, I think this is one of the most terrible comparisons I have seen in a long time.

yeah, they are comparing Ati's 6x AA with Nvidia's 8xS, wich is a performance pig.
