 The Witcher Interview - interview
(hx) 11:40 AM CEST - Jul,23 2004
HomeLAN has conducted an interview with Michal Kicinski of CDProjekt as he talks about The Witcher, their upcoming fantasy action-RPG that uses BioWare's Aurora engine. Here is an excerpt:
HomeLAN - What kind of magic system and powers will be used in the game?

Michal Kicinski - Long time ago, when the witcher order was founded, the idea behind was to create a warrior with unsurpassed combat skills as well as powerful magical abilities. It turned out however that witchers didn't have enough aptitude to become full-fledged wizards. They posses some magical skills, but they are fairly limited. Instead they are skilled in using so-called "gestures" which are in fact simple spells, that enable them for example to light fire, protect themselves from enemy attacks for some time, or stop opponents for some time. Casting spells consumes the witcher's endurance, just like using special attacks. Additionally, in order to use a gesture, the witcher must have one hand free, so it's impossible to use gestures carrying two swords or a sword and a shield. There are six gestures in total (three offensive and three defensive), and each has three power levels. When you acquire advancement points you may opt to spend some on upgrading your abilities and making your spells more efficient.
