Half-Life 2 Specs Revealed - briefly|
| (hx) 01:30 PM CEST - Jul,13 2004 | Over at
EuroGamer you can find
some info about the hardware requirements for Half-Life 2:
Taking time out to post on HL2Fallout's forums last week, Newell said that the minimum spec would be a 1.2GHz powered PC with 256MB RAM, Win 98/ME/2000/XP and a DirectX 7 compatible graphics card.
But for those who want to see the game running in all its glory, be prepared to spec up to around a 2.4 GHz machine, with 512MB RAM, Windows 2000/XP and a DirectX 9 capable graphics card.

| madda | (04:24 PM CEST - Jul,13 2004 ) | | i got a middle of the range pc at about 2ghz with 768 ram and a geforce ti 4600. should run this game adequantly, i was thinking of upgrading the graphics card but there is little point as the motherboard only supports AGP 4x max :( | |
| xxxx | (06:33 PM CEST - Jul,13 2004 ) | | oh do you know a card that transfers data at faster than 4x AGP? Please tell, at least other than PCIx. Don't tell me you actually believe a 8x AGP card is faster than 4x cuz i think you need to do some research. But yes, your card is outdated for current games. | |
| madda | (07:09 PM CEST - Jul,13 2004 ) | | never researched it to be honest, so i got a card and put in in my machine it would run the same as if my motherboard had AGP 8x? | |
| maga | (07:25 PM CEST - Jul,13 2004 ) | | the thing is , you dont want to get to the situation where the video card actually NEEDS to transfer data (in the middle of a game) through the AGP interface (4x, 8x, or otherwise). the 8x AGP speed is something like 2133 mB/sec. Compare that with the Radeon 9800 Pro memory pipe that is approx. 21000 mB/sec (i donn't remember exacly). | |
| Samadama | (07:48 PM CEST - Jul,13 2004 ) | @madda.. yes it will run the same..... I got the exact same setup...2.0, 768, Ti 4600. :P
But for those who want to see the game running in ALL ITS GLORY, be prepared to spec up to around a 2.4 GHz machine, with 512MB RAM, Windows 2000/XP and a DirectX 9 capable graphics card.
I seriously don't agree with these requirements. They must mean 2.4 GHZ AMD 64bit and TOP OF THE LINE DRECTX with the fastest 512mb.
| El_Coyote | (10:58 PM CEST - Jul,13 2004 ) | | why would you need 64bit to run a 32bit application on a 32bit OS? | |
| xxxx | (11:39 PM CEST - Jul,13 2004 ) | | i didnt see alot in the game to require such drastic hardware, i'd be highly suprised if you can't run HL2 with a GF 4600. from my understanding was that it would work well from 4200 + and it even supports lower DirectX.. so.. | |

| Samadama | (07:11 PM CEST - Jul,14 2004 ) | Bill got me.....  I have a 3ghz, 1 GB Ram, 9800 AIW.
As far as 32 and 64 bit that's is exactly what I thought EL_Coyote. But when I saw my friends exact same setup but with an AMD 64 3000, smoke my pc in pretty much all the game benchmarks...... I just don't know MAAAAN..
@xxxx , I just don't know. I look at all the games that I have and when ever I tried to play on my old 2.0 pc I am always around 35 to 40 fps that is using FRAPS and without any AA. Games like NFS, Call of duty, UT 2004, HALO, MOH, True Crimes and Vice City. But I hope you are right.
| xxxx | (10:40 PM CEST - Jul,14 2004 ) | | @samadama, it's what i heard from some people. i'll run it either way with my rig even if i have to cut it down. sorry too, that was my other pc i'm talking about.. hehe. technically i should have no problems with my rig. it would take every single game coming out to warrant having to get a new vid card. i'm not upgrading for HL2...no way. doom3, couldn't care less neither do i know anyone else personally who gives a hoot so i'm not worried on that front. in meantime, hate to say it, but i am having a ball with Condition Zero.. can't believe i bought it, but it's certainly entertaining and wayyyy better than CS was.. | |
