Xbox One Hardware Trouble Rumors - console
(hx) 09:23 PM CEST - Jun,06 2013 - Post a comment / read (6)
According to Sun Media reporter Steve Tilley, Microsoft has cancelled its #E3 post-press conference roundtable w/ the media. Not sure what to make of that. That doesn't sound like a good thing, especially for a company that has been tripping all over themselves since the Xbox One reveal the other week. Either Microsoft plans on being as clear as day during their conference, leaving no stone unturned, or they have some things to hide. It probably doesn't help matters that this news coincides with a new rumor that Microsoft is having trouble with ESRAM yields for the console. This rumor has also tied in to another rumor that the Xbox One GPU might be downclocked and less powerful than originally planned:
Because of yield issues with the eRAM chip, they're contemplating on downgrading the specs by lowering the clock speeds in different components. So much in fact, they're going from a 1.2 Teraflop system to 800-900 Gigaflops.

For reference the Xbox 360/PS3 are about 200 Gigaflops each with PS3 at 220-250 and the Wii U at around 300-400 Gigaflops.

PS4 is 1.8 Teraflops or 1800 Gigaflops.

If this is true, then wouldn't the PS4 be having the same issues, since both the Xbox One and PS4 basically use the same hardware?

So... this is going well. Maybe they could ask Ballmer to yell at it.

Xbox One: Microsoft defends pre-owned games rules

Microsoft has clarified its position on selling and buying pre-owned titles for its new Xbox One console.

Confusion arose after it appeared the company would impose a fee for playing pre-owned games, a move that was highly unpopular with gamers.

The company has now said in a statement that games can be traded in, but only at "participating retailers".

Games can be freely passed on to friends, Microsoft added, but only once.

"Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends," the statement said.

"There are no fees charged as part of these transfers.

"There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once."

The Xbox One will come up against Sony's new console, the PlayStation 4.

Sony is yet to show off the console and has not set out its policy on pre-owned games.

Its worldwide studios president, Shuhei Yoshida, told news site Eurogamer that used games would not be "blocked" on the console, but would not specify whether there would be a fee for using pre-owned titles.

Always online
The Xbox One has also come under fire after it emerged it might have to be always online to play games.

After signing in and installing, you can play any of your games from any Xbox One because a digital copy of your game is stored on your console and in the cloud”

Microsoft
Microsoft explained on Thursday that while the console did not have to be online to play, it did need to connect at least once every 24 hours.

The company said: "You can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library.

"Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies."

This policy would "raise a few eyebrows" in the gaming community, one technology blog wrote.

But Microsoft argued that these policies allow individuals greater access to their games, even if players are not on their own console.

"After signing in and installing, you can play any of your games from any Xbox One because a digital copy of your game is stored on your console and in the cloud.

"So, for example, while you are logged in at your friend's house, you can play your games."

As the console is always on, it allows developers to create "massive, persistent worlds that evolve even when you're not playing", Microsoft said.

Wow, if that crap is true, none of that made anything better.

Actually I think every single line of that made things worse.

Goodbye.

Evidently I define the word "freely" differently than Microsoft defines it. Judging by the content and tone of that press release, I'd say they've decided to hire Genghis Khan as their PR manager: "You'll buy it, and you'll do what we say, when we say, or we'll send a million screaming Mongols to your living room! Stupid dirtmen!"

If you aren't already using a PC for all things gaming then you're an utter failure and waste of space. These are the facts. If you're in Europe or outside the USA and you use a console then you're even a bigger idiot than most stereotypical rednecks or blacks in the inner city here in the USA.

Singularity - PC, PS3, Xbox 360 - Raven have stated that Singularity's main gameplay mechanism is a device, known in the game as the TMD (Time Manipulation Device). The TMD has the ability to move a single object through time, both into the future, and into the past. It can also freeze an object in time, and has an 'Impulse' function, which can be used as a weapon once upgraded. The TMD is multifunctional, as it can be used as a powerful weapon, but also as a tool in puzzle solving scenarios. The device's use as a weapon is unconventional when compared to the weapons in other games. For instance, using the TMD's "rewind" function on a human opponent will send them into a "placental" state where they revert to an almost amoebic state, before slowly dying. The device is essential for solving puzzles, such as sending a lock forward in time, causing it to rust it in real time, or sending a broken bridge backwards in time until it returns to a usable state. Sending a tree trunk forwards in time while standing on it will cause it grow very quickly, allowing the player to reach higher areas. (746 hits)
