Weekend Reading Reading - Revolution Specs - briefly

I watched Robots last night on DVD. The movie was pretty good!  The landscapes are stunning, the characters are intricately formed, there's plenty of break-neck action, and Robin Williams provides a helping of belly laughs. If you have kids, there's little chance that you'll escape seeing this movie, and, when you go, you'll probably enjoy yourself :) Not much going on today at all. Got through some more of Codename Panzers Phase Two and I must say it's a very enjoyable game. But my fingers are also itching to play Bet On Soldier - yes I have the install CDs on my desk...

Here's some stuff:
  • Exploit Circulates For Firefox Flaw - According to the comments posted by the exploit's author, identified as Berend-Jan Wever, a Dutch programmer who has previously cranked out exploit code for Internet Explorer vulnerabilities, the hack creates a heap buffer overflow, and when it works, can give the user complete control of a vulnerable machine running Firefox, Mozilla, or even Netscape. Like many browser-oriented exploits, an attack using the exploit would require that the victim surf to a malicious site; the usual methods of getting users to evil Web sites is with spam e-mail.  Firefox 1.0.7 and Mozilla 1.7.12, which stymie the exploit, can be downloaded from the Mozilla site.
  • PlayStation 3 for Spring debut - Chairman and CEO of Sony America, Sir Howard Stringer, has confirmed that the company plans to launch PlayStation 3 in Spring 2006, as expected. The exact details of the launch still remain top secret, leading to some interesting media speculation. GamesIndustry.biz reports that, while no specific territory was mentioned in the statement, "indications are that a Japanese launch would be first - around April or May, with European and US launches following later in the year, or early in 2007".
  • Revolution Specs Rumors - Han Solo (the guy who previously he had leaked the xbox360 specs which turned out to be correct) updated the specs nintendo will use: 1 IBM Custom PowerPC 2.5 GHz with 256 KB L1 cache and 1 MB of L2 cache (an L3 cache is rumored), ATI Custom based RN520 core at 600 MHz. Will support up to 2048x1268 resolution, HD support is still being decided. Will have 256 MB's of 1T-SRAM, 32 parallel floating-point dynamically scheduled shader pipelines, Rev Memory: 512 MB of 700 MHz 1T-SRA...there will also be a separate sound card that will support only DD 5.1 - DTS 7.1, rumors has it will have 16 MB's, like the Cube DSP.
  • PSP 2.0 Firmware Haxored? - The folks over at PSPUpdates have received an email from someone named 'foo bar' with a file made by unknown, which allows a buffer overflow to be run via the photos menu in Sony PSP firmware v2.0. Although it is not currently possible to run homebrew code with this exploit, the door is wide open for the future.
  • Gizmondo cracked for homebrew - A guy called Firefly over at the Gizmondo Forums is claiming that's he's created a crack for the Gizmondo that allows him to run unsigned code.
  • Truly MP313X Color Display MP3 Player - Start with the 1.8" LCD and LED backlit screen providing 64,000 colors for easy digital viewing. A full 1GB of onboard flash memory with the ability to store up to 250 songs (nine hours) or about 2,500 photos (JPEG/BMP/LGO) is also waiting for you. Need more? How about an SD slot allowing up to an additional 1GB of memory?
  • Oregon Scientific's iBall - Oregon Scientific recently released the iBall, a bowling-ball shaped wireless speaker for the iPod. It's a lot like the StyleFi Music Sphere, but re-engineered with the iPod in mind.
  • Epson Photo Fine Player P-4000 Features 80GB HDD - Epson offers a new Photo Fine Player model with a large 80GB hard-drive - Epson P-4000. The Epson PMP views photos, but also plays MP4 video and MP3 music.
  • Home Theater for DMB phones - Samsung presents their "Anycall Theater" in Korea, a mini home theater for DMB telephones. The concept looks quite cool judging by the pictures and the speakers produce 2x2W. The price is quite high nevertheless: 150000 Won (approx 120 EUR
  • DVD/DivX player - DVD player that is DivX compatible is not new, but when you get DVD Video, SACD, SVCD, VCD, Divx (5.2,5,4,3.11,PRO), Xvid and OGG playback with a 15bit/108Mhz video DAC, that's slightly less plain and simple.
