  • China blocks news not porn online - Chinese internet surfers have almost unfettered access to pornography, but news, health and education sites are routinely blocked, US researchers have found.  The team from the Harvard Law School tested more than 200,000 websites to find out what content was banned in China. They found that nearly 20,000 sites were inaccessible, showing that China had an effective system of blocking sensitive material.

  • Revolutionary New Theory For Origins Of Life On Earth  - A totally new and highly controversial theory on the origin of life on earth, is set to cause a storm in the science world and has implications for the existence of life on other planets. Research by Professor William Martin of the University of Dusseldorf and Dr Michael Russell of the Scottish Environmental Research Centre in Glasgow, claims that living systems originated from inorganic incubators - small compartments in iron sulphide rocks. The new theory radically departs from existing perceptions of how life developed and it will be published in Philosophical Transactions B, a learned journal produced by the Royal Society.
  • Novel fridge cools with sound - Some of the coolest sounds in the world are coming out of a laboratory in Pennsylvania.  At the lab, two US researchers are working on ways to use sound to chill food.  They have produced a sonic fridge that converts very loud sounds to directly cool a fridge containing ice cream. The researchers hope that their work will end reliance on gases that can contribute to global warming.

The Flip-Paf's unique dual portrait displays and vast workspace combine in a portable folding form factor. • Ultra miniature Kanguru Micro MP3 USB player  - Interactive Media Corporation today announced its ultra miniature Kanguru Micro MP3 USB player with built-in flash memory. The device supports USB1.1, weighs just 46 g and has 92x30.4x26 mm dimensions. It also features the built-in NAND memory and the 500 mA rechargeable battery (up to 6 hours of operation). Capable of resisting 1000G shock, the player can have 64Mb, 128Mb, and 256Mb capacities. Besides storing and playing music, Kanguru Micro MP3 can also be used as a usual flash trinket. 64Mb Kanguru Micro MP3 costs $99.95, 128Mb and 256Mb versions - $139.95 and $199.95, respectively.

  • VIA AGP 4.40 Driver Preview  - The test system for this article consisted of the KT400 powered Abit AT7-MAX2, 2 x 256 MB of Corsair XMS3500 memory, an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro graphics card and all the other usually odds and ends. The only difference between the two system setups is version of the AGP drivers used. In our first run, we used the VIA 4-in-1 drivers version 4.43, which includes AGP driver version 4.30a. The new driver that I received was the AGP driver version 4.40. That means, for our benchmark graphs, the AGP 4.40 is the new, updated driver and the 4in-1 4.43 version is the older one, despite the names and numbers used.
