Valve Announces Steam Guard - briefly
(hx) 01:27 AM CET - Mar,04 2011 - Post a comment / read (8)
Earlier today, Valve has announced their new Steam Guard method of protecting your Steam account from unsavory phishers.
Steam Guard allows users to link management of their account to a specific PC. Attempts to modify or change account settings by any other PC won't be possible without the user's approval.

Steam Guard will take advantage of upcoming Intel® Identity Protection Technology (Intel® IPT), an encrypted, hardware-based feature available with the new 2nd Generation Intel® CoreT and Intel® CoreT vProT processors. IPT generates a new numerical password every 30 seconds, integrating into the processor functionality that previously required a separate card or key fob.

Users will also be notified if any PCs other than those authorized by them attempt to log into or modify their account settings.

Steam Guard is available to third parties to incorporate into their own applications through Steamworks.

Oh its that classic ploy of for your security and 'protection' lol... your hardware does not require anonymity

oh I can only wonder where all this drive for 'identification' goes

It goes to the cloud!

koogle you idiot lol....you need to learn to read instead of assume that every company is out to get you. This would save a lot of companies a boatload of money from helping hacked customers and save a lot of people a boatload of hassle when they get hacked.

I hope you grow up soon and look back on these posts and laugh at how stupid you were back in the day.

Genoism your short sighted muppet of course I see what is going on and how they are trying to add nice sounding consumer and business benefits to the technology, however it can just as easily be abused in other ways, heck its practically identifiable DRM slipped into the CPU. I think you need to take off your rose colored glasses and see the intel covered shit coming in.

"This would save a lot of companies a boatload of money "

that is big assumption in itself, it can just as easily cost them a boatload of money in lost sales and pissed off customers when it gets fucked up! Heck valve has huge fucking profits, they need to cut customer support.. lol idiots like you are part of the problem in shallow short sighted self centered ignorance.

"I hope you grow up soon and look back on these posts and laugh at how stupid you were back in the day." ///

likewise ;)

p.s grow up yourself there is nothing good in the mentality of what this crap is ultimately designed for.

you know by your logic everything can be made 'evil'. See a car, its evil, because of the purpose it can have. I can use it to get to work or I can use it to run you over.

I can use a knife to cut my food or I can use it to cut you.

I can use the CPU to protect the accounts of my users or I can use it to steal their info.

Everything comes down to how you use it. Don't assume something is created for the ultimate purpose of abusing someone else. If intel decides to use this to steals people information people will find out, hackers will create something to avoid it. It's very simple.

 .. the passive aggressive psycho attitude at making those twisted examples is stupid.

"Don't assume something is created for the ultimate purpose of abusing someone else. "

No the purpose is money, power and control, moron. And a car that I have total control over is mine do as I want with responsibly, carelessly, or not even me ...is not the same as a car design with electronics to pass over control to someone else to disable/track or do as they want..its a totally different beast. That gullible people are being lead along into supporting out of fear, security, jealousy, stupidity, laziness etc... mainly problems created by the same mentality of people who want to present and have others accept these deceptive solutions.

Genoism(05:09 AM CET - Mar,06 2011 )
if there was no money, power and control we would live in one hellish world. Its because of money, power and control that we can keep people from being the worst they can.

Genoism> if there was no money, power and control we would live in one hellish world. Its because of money, power and control that we can keep people from being the worst they can.

It already is in just about every country for those who fall off the bottom line, due to such a corrupt system. Or the economic hitmen who put countries who do not comply with the financial elite and their installed government puppets in worse conditions. Those who like control and to benefit at others people's expense are the problem causes, its the oldest trick in the book of manipulating people. Like agent provocateurs who instigate trouble for those who they work for to offer policy solutions and taxed preventatives.

So it is not at all because of money, power and control that the world is better.. that is masonic shit thinking. Like the mafia coming to your home stealing or smashing up everything unless you agree to play by their forced rules and obey to their extortion rackets. It is really a flawed argument of do as we say, not as we do... the last thing controllers would ever like to give up is the charade or tricks and deception from which they garner power over others, and continue to push for more. Making out that things would be worse without them or the system they have worshipfully built and took control over for themselves is a joke.

And Money is control, it is not a fair trading system never has been with banks running the show, scrupulous criminal elitists and their legal monkey parasites at the helm of obfuscating things, enough to keep the common man complying with the system but complicated enough for most to give up truly understanding the scam themselves, instead relying on those who would be easily corrupted and brainwashed for a paycheck to lie and believe their own bullshit for the extra benefits and security.

Anyway valve have shown countless times how they want to conduct business, people are dumb to buy and tie games to a single account from which they own fucking nothing but a conditional right to use the services provided(I mean how stupid are people no wonder phishers exist, just a new problem because of valve's system in the first place). You can be locked out at any time should a mistake be made or anything else should happen. Supporting Slave Guard with identifiable DRM PC hardware just ups the control. Convenience? not so much for average joe really, as there will undoubtedly be new problems. It does benefit Valve greatly and affiliated partners though.

"If intel decides to use this to steals people information people will find out, hackers will create something to avoid it. It's very simple."

Hackers or those who help others for nothing should just stop in way, they are just slowing down the inevitable, bridging the gaps of those who are filled with greed to deceive and ignorant stupidity. See how long people put up with being screwed and how well business and society as whole does in a completely money quantified driven existence.
