UK Weighs £180 TV Licence for Netflix and YouTube

The UK government is
considering changes
that could require people to pay the £180 annual TV Licence to watch streaming services such as Netflix and YouTube.
The idea is being looked at as part of the BBC’s next Royal Charter review, which is due for renewal at the end of 2027.
Right now, a TV Licence is only needed to watch live TV on any channel or to use BBC iPlayer.
On-demand content on Netflix, YouTube, or similar services does not currently require a licence if no live TV is watched.
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy is examining options to broaden the licence as the number of people paying it continues to fall.
A white paper on the BBC charter is expected before Christmas, but no final decision has been made.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has said it is looking at a range of funding options to keep the BBC sustainable.

If you have cable or satellite TV in the U.K. or buy a TV. Your details are sent to the TV licensing and are required by law if you have either subscription regardles,. Because all TVs have tuners in them to pickup BBC channels.
If you have Netflix on a laptop and don’t own a tv then that’s a no,no.
