- Sapphire Demos Radeon HD 7990 Atomic Card - Sapphire is
showing off its upcoming watercooled Radeon HD 7990 Atomic at Computex today:
You see, while Sapphire has a reference Radeon HD 7990 based on AMD's
latest design, it has been cooking up a fully-custom board in the
skunkworks. The six-output HD 7990 Atomic 6GB card uses an enclosed
liquid-cooling system as found on the ARES II but is presented in a
much sleeker form factor than ASUS's offering. It must be noted that
the at-show card is a very early sample and Sapphire will refine the
tubing, pump and reservoir before limited-run production in a few
months. Sapphire declined to discuss frequencies yet indicated that it
would certainly be the fastest HD 7990 around. When pushed on price,
Bill relayed that the card package - GPU, pre-fitted waterblock,
tubing, two-in one reservoir and pump - would likely cost around
£1,000. You had better start saving if you're a fan of AMD graphics!

- Seagate 600 240GB SSD - Legit
Reviews has the Seagate 600 240GB SSD on the test bench today for
a little review action. Word is: "We found performance on our
Seagate 600 240GB drive to be very good with the Link_A_Media Devices
(LAMD) LM87800 controller handling all the heavy lifting. The
specifications of 550MB/s reads and 450MB/s writes were hit without a
problem and even on incompressible data, speeds were solid. IOPS
performance was very good as well, exceeding the 80,000/70,000
reads/writes by a bit to place in the upper portion of the comparison
list."
- WD Delivers World's Thinnest 1 TB Hard Drive - WD has
announced at COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2013 (booth L0810) it is shipping the world's
thinnest 1 TB hard drive with its new 2.5-inch WD Blue 7 mm hard
drive. Offering OEMs, channel integrators and consumers a unique
storage solution for thin and light systems, slimmer notebooks, as well
as compatibility with the industry-standard 9.5 mm drive slots of
mainstream notebooks, the WD Blue hard drive family, in capacities from
320 GB to 1 TB in the 7 mm height, now provides a singular option of
thin design and high capacity storage.
- VIA Anounces an Android PC in a Cardboard Box - The APC Rock board is a Neo-ITX form factor board,
and thus measures only 170 x 80 mm. The board is based on an ARM
Cortex-A9 chip, carries 512 MB of DDR3 memory, as well as 4 GB of NAND
flash. External connectivity is taken care of by an HDMI port, a VGA
port, two USB 2.0 ports, an outgoing microUSB port, audio ports and a
microSD slot. Internet connectivity is handled by a 100 Mbit Ethernet
port.
- ASUS Zenbook Infinity: Hands On with the Most Beautiful
Notebook at Computex - Internally, the Zenbook Infinity is also pretty cool.
Unlike all other Haswell Ultrabooks we've seen, the ZBI is home to a
28W Haswell ULT: the Core i7-4558U. The dual-core part features Intel's
Iris 5100 graphics (GT3 without Crystalwell) as well as a higher base
CPU clock frequency. The result should be a very interesting
combination of power efficiency and GPU performance on tap. ASUS seems
to always pick the right parts to integrate into its mobile devices,
and the i7-4558U is definitely an interesting one.

- The incredible story of a face transplant (video) - For Carmen
Tarleton, the day started out normally enough. Tarleton, 45, had
errands to run, a piano lesson to get to, a house to tidy. Tomorrow was
Valentine's Day, and for the first time in a long time - the first time
since the attack five years earlier - she looked forward to spending it
with a new boyfriend. And then everything changed. The phone rang, and
Tarleton's surgeon gave her the news: after more than a year of
searching, doctors were optimistic that they'd finally found her a new
face. Less than 24 hours later, at 5AM on February 14th, 2013, Carmen
Tarleton was wheeled into an operating room at Brigham and Women's
Hospital in Boston, MA, for an experimental procedure that would
replace her own scarred, mangled face with that of recently deceased
56-year-old Cheryl Denelli-Righter. If the surgeons succeeded, Tarleton
would become just the seventh American patient to undergo a risky,
experimental procedure known as a face transplant.
