  • Microsoft removes Windows 10 upgrade ads - Microsoft has released an update for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 that will please users who've decided to stick with an older operating system. KB3184143, as spotted by ZDNet, removes the Get Windows 10 app and all other software related to Windows 10 upgrades. The primary purpose of the Get Windows 10 app was to promote the Windows 10 free upgrade offer and try to convince as many users as possible to upgrade. However, the app's tactics were controversial: it not only advertised Windows 10 through pop-ups, but it would also sometimes install Windows 10 in the background, even if you clicked to dismiss the pop-up windows. While most advertising for Windows 10 inside older versions of Windows disappeared when the free upgrade offer ended on July 29th, the Get Windows 10 app was still deployed on most Windows 7 and 8.1 systems. KB3184143 "removes the Get Windows 10 app and other software related to the Windows 10 free upgrade offer."
  • Mamba ransomware encrypts your hard drive - Typical ransomware behavior usually involves encryption of a user's computer files after they run an executable program, or maybe a Javascript file, in order to lower suspicions. However, a new strain of ransomware goes for the bigger piece of the cake, encrypting an entire hard drive aside from the files themselves. Called Mamba or HDDCrypt, the malware was initially discovered in the Morphus Labs in Brazil. It was also found in machines in the United States and India. According to Renato Marinho, a researcher at Morphus Labs, the malware is believed to be spread through phishing emails and malicious downloads. Once it infects a machine, it overwrites the host computer's Master Boot Record (MBR) with its own variant, and from there, it will now be able to encrypt the hard drive.
  • Yahoo's Data Breach: What to Do If Your Account Was Hacked - If you have ever had a Yahoo account - you should probably change your passwords. In what is believed to be one of the biggest data breaches of all time, Yahoo has confirmed that at least half a billion user accounts were hacked in 2014 by a so-called "state-sponsored" actor. 2014??? And YAHOOs just NOW telling us all?!?? LOL
  • Apple Releases iOS 10.0.2 to Fix Bugs - Apple today made iOS 10.0.2 available to iPhones and iPads in order to resolve some bugs. According to Apple, the small update addresses a problem impacting audio controls, fixes an issue that prevents some app extensions from working, and solves a bug that caused Photos to crash. iOS 10.0.2 is free to download and install. The update includes fixes for several minor bugs, including an annoying problem that was causing the Lightning headphone controls to be disabled after a period of inactivity. The glitch seemed to happen randomly and could only be fixed by unplugging and re-plugging them. Reports started to emerge just days after the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus officially went on sale and to Apple’s credit the fix didn’t take too long at all. The update also solves a problem that caused the Photos app to crash when enabling iCloud Photo Library and a problem that prevented app extensions from being enabled.

  • Samsung Says 500,000 Note7 Replacements Available - Samsung Electronics America today announced that 500,000 replacement Galaxy Note7 smartphones have been shipped to carrier and retail stores in the United States. The replacement devices will be made available starting September 21 to people who previously bought the Galaxy Note7 and need to exchange it for one with a known-safe battery. Further, Samsung plans to push a software update to all Note7s to help consumers identify safe devices from those that still might pose a fire risk. Once updated, new/safe Note7 units will display a green battery icon on the status bar found on the top right hand of the screen. Samsung and the U.S. CPSC urge everyone who bought a Note7 before September 15 to power down their device. A software update will be pushed to all recalled devices that will prompt owners with a safety notice urging them to turn the phone off and and exchange it. The notice will appear every time Note7 owners power up or charge their impacted phone. Note7 owners can visit Samsung's web site for more information
  • Exchanged Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Phones Face Fresh Battery Complaints - Fresh reports of overheating and batteries losing life quickly have surfaced for new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 units after exchange for the handsets began earlier on Monday in South Korea following its recall, according to South Korean broadcaster YTN. YTN interviewed multiple customers who received new phones and complained that the phones' batteries quickly drained and overheated. But there have been no reported fires or explosions, unlike with the initial batches of the Note 7.
  • Sprint Says It Has Improved NYC Network Performance - Sprint today talked up coverage improvements it has made across New York City. For example, using two-channel carrier aggregation Sprint has doubled the download speeds and capacity of its 2.5 GHz cell sites around the metropolitan area. Sprint said it is already working to bring three-channel carrier aggregation to NYC, which will eventually deliver download speeds in excess of 200 Mbps on compatible devices. The company has also stepped up coverage in transportation hubs, such as the Oculus, the Port Authority Bus Terminal, and Queens Midtown Tunnel. Sprint expects to add coverage to the Lincoln and Holland tunnels in the months ahead, as well as complete its deployment of LTE within the entire New York City subway system. Sprint is kicking off a major marketing campaign in the metro area today to call attention to its improved service.
  • Verizon Prepaid Customers Gain HD Voice - Verizon Wireless today said its prepaid subscribers will have access to VoLTE services, including HD Voice and video calls, starting September 25. Prepaid customers will need to add HD Voice to their account before they can make HD calls, but the add-on will be free. Calls are routed over Verizon's LTE data network rather than Verizon's legacy voice network. HD Voice supports six-way conference calls, one- or two-way video calls, and WiFi calling. As always, both the handset making the call and the handset receiving the call need to have the feature enabled and must be connected via LTE for HD Voice to function properly. Verizon said its prepaid customers HD Voice is available to more than two dozen newer iOS and Android smartphones. All WiFi calls made to U.S. phone numbers are free, but calls made to foreign numbers are billed at international long distance rates.

Please show me the wide variety of 144Hz screens at 16:10. People don't care about 16:10. Unless they're spaced out. I've only ever had one LCD like that and it didn't make any real difference.

Myself I'd just never get an AOC..

Clearly I speak for the majority. Thanks.

Ain't it funny the brands you put after AOC is a total contradiction of the facts? AOC is like a generic brand, known to typically miss expected features, failure rates is also high.
