TechNews - Samsung ATIV Q Revealed - tech
(hx) 07:27 PM CEST - Jun,22 2013 - Post a comment
  • Samsung ATIV Q: The Best Of Two Worlds (Hands-On Video) - Samsung says that their ATIV Q is "addressing consumers" desire to access Android apps on a Windows-based PC, the ATIV Q allows users to experience both Windows 8 and Android (Jelly Bean 4.2.2) on the same device. Users will not only get access to Android apps via Google Play but also be able to transfer files, to share folders and files from Windows 8 to Android, "truly marrying the mobile and PC experiences."  The device will allow you to launch Android from Windows 8, pin Android apps to the Windows 8 start screen, use the same screen to launch Android and Windows 8 apps, and of course access both the Play Store and Microsoft Store. The specs of the device include an Intel Core i5 Haswell processor with HD 4400 graphics, 4GB RAM, a 128GB SSD, and a 13.3-inch display, which "offers 2.8 times higher pixel density (275ppi) than full HD displays", according to Samsung. The whole thing weighs 1.29kg and measures in at 13.9mm.
  • Samsung unveils Galaxy NX Camera and Active Q Tablet - Leading mobile manufacturer Samsung has introduced the Galaxy NX camera and the Active Q, a portable laptop/tablet duo that can switch seamlessly between Windows 8 and Android. According to Fox News, Active Q has a 13.3-inch display with 3,200 * 1,800 pixel resolution. Samsung also announced several new updates to its flagship Galaxy S smartphone line, including mini, active and zoom versions. Samsung's Zoom version is the first smartphone with a 10x optical zoom function. The Galaxy S4 Active version allows the users up to 30 minutes of protection underwater.
  • Best Graphics Cards For The Money: June 2013 - As far as performance goes, the first clear group of GPUs includes the Radeon HD 7870 LE and below. You see a great correlation between speed and cost up to this $250 card. Every dollar you spend yields a commensurate return in performance. In the value-oriented segment, that's exactly what you want to see. Beyond that point, price increases faster than performance, negatively affecting absolute value. Having said that, if you're a hardcore gamer who desires high resolutions and taxing detail settings, cards like the GeForce GTX 670 or 770 will make the difference between playable and unplayable frame rates. Nvidia's GeForce GTX 780 is significantly faster than the Radeon HD 7970 or GeForce GTX 770, but its $650 price point hurts value. The same can be said for the GeForce GTX Titan, with a $1000 sticker that defies it's meager improvement over the 780. In that highest tier, Nvidia's GeForce GTX 690 performs a bit better than the new Radeon HD 7990.
  • Fitting One Petabyte On A DVD? - This company claims that its new two-light beam system will allow for up to one petabyte of data to be stored on a single DVD: Word is: In Nature Communications today, we, along with Richard Evans from CSIRO, show how we developed a new technique to enable the data capacity of a single DVD to increase from 4.7 gigabytes up to one petabyte (1,000 terabytes). This is equivalent of 10.6 years of compressed high-definition video or 50,000 full high-definition movies
  • Kim Dotcom: Megaupload data in Europe wiped out by hosting company - Kim Dotcom today said on Twitter that Megaupload user data in Europe has been "irreversibly lost" because it was deleted by a Netherlands-based server hosting company called LeaseWeb.
  • Facebook Unveils Video For Instagram - Facebook today unveiled a highly anticipated video feature for its popular Instagram photo-sharing app, a foray that comes as mobile rivals circle its business. In keeping with its status as king of stylized photos, Instagram will feature 13 filters for video. "What we did to photos we just did to video," said Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom at Facebook's headquarters here. Instagram's video app is available on Apple's App Store and Google's Play. In addition to its signature filters, Instagram will enable 15 second videos, custom cover frames, and image stabilization. The move by the world's largest social network underscores tense rivalry between Facebook and Twitter. Twitter's Vine short form video service, launched in January, has amassed a fast following for its quirky and raw six-second videos.
