TechNews - Galaxy Note 5 And Galaxy S6 Edge+ - tech
(hx) 12:17 PM CEST - Aug,16 2015 - Post a comment / read (6)
  • Samsung Announces Galaxy Note 5 And Galaxy S6 Edge+ - Despite this success, Samsung is pushing the Note5 in a different direction. It retains the 5.7-inch QHD (2560x1440) Super AMOLED screen from the previous Note and squeezes it into a smaller, redesigned body. Adopting the same styling and aluminum frame and glass back construction as the smaller Galaxy S6, the Note5 sheds its removable battery and microSD card slot. It is also the first Note phone without significantly more powerful internal hardware than its smaller predecessor. By adopting the sleek design of the Galaxy S6, Samsung clearly believes it's time for the Note to move out of its niche towards a broader, more mainstream audience. The issue with this strategy is that what makes the Note series popular is different than what draws people to the smaller Galaxy S phones
  • Microsoft rolls out second cumulative update for Windows 10 - Less than a week after Microsoft released the first cumulative update to Windows 10, they have pushed out another cumulative release via Windows Update. At this time, it is not known what this release includes - but many users will be hoping that it contains a fix for issues that were causing some machines to enter a reboot loop while trying to install the first update. This particular update is KB3081436 and you can find the support page here
  • Microsoft has released another cumulative update for Windows 10 - Well, if there was any doubt that Microsoft would be pushing out updates quickly, you can put it to bed as the company has released yet another update. Cumulative update 3, which is now live via Windows Update, is rolling out to users around the world. This is the third update in less than two weeks for the OS and while the support page is not live, the last update was primarily patching security vulnerabilities. The supporting documentation for the update can be found here, KB3081438, but it provides no further information about what the update contains; "This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality of Windows 10".
  • Microsoft Rewrites Activation Rules For Windows 10 - The biggest change of all is that the Windows 10 activation status for a device is stored online. After you successfully activate Windows 10 for the first time, that device will activate automatically in the future, with no product key required. That's a huge change from previous versions of Windows, which required a product key for every installation. And it's potentially an unwelcome surprise for anyone who tries to do a clean install of Windows 10 without understanding the new activation landscape.
  • How To Unlock Windows 10 God Mode - To unlock God Mode all you have to do is create a new folder on your desktop and name it this: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
  • DoNotSpy10 - With the release of Windows 10 came the concerns about privacy and tracking. While we think that privacy as we know is essentially dead that does not mean we should be relaxed about it. Not at all. pXc-Coding has sent in DoNotSpy10, the first ever anti-spy tool for Windows 10. It allows you to set a restore point just in case. The interface simply gives you a list of areas where tracking or privacy is a concern. App access is always a big one as is Password Reveal but there are a couple you might want to leave alone including Windows Defender and Windows Updates. Watch out during the install for one third party program it offers to insall. A portable version would be nice here as well as suggested items to remove that won't effect your system security. Otherwise it's a great start for the first Windows 10 anti-privacy tool.
  • Firefox 40 adds Windows 10 UI tweaks - The Mozilla Foundation has released Firefox version 40 to its public channel for both desktop and Android devices. The milestone update includes a minor Windows 10-inspired UI update and expanded malware protection in addition to the usual batch of bug fixes. Mozilla said it has made 'thoughtful' tweaks to the Firefox interface to give it a streamlined feel. Specifically, version 40 includes larger design elements – a larger 'close' button on tabs and a bigger font in the address bar, for example – to make it easier to use with touchscreen devices on small screens. Following Mozilla's public outcry to Microsoft regarding the Windows 10 upgrade process, it's comes as little surprise to see the foundation address some of its qualms in the new version of Firefox. Mozilla has created some support material to help show users how to restore or select Firefox as their default browser in Windows 10. Unfortunately, this browser getting be slower and slower :-(
  • Apple releases OS X version 10.10.5 with important security fixes - Apple has released OS X version 10.10.5, and with it comes a bevy of fixes.
  • Kaspersky said to have targeted Microsoft and others with fake - Kaspersky denies this claim - not that you would expect them to come out and say that they purposefully targeted other vendors with false reports - but the end result was that the open channels used to share malware information among vendors, which were based on trust, are now broken. The two former Kaspersky employees said that these attacks went on for more than 10 years with a peak between 2009 and 2013.
  • Car Immobilizers Easy To Crack - Anti-theft devices found on millions of cars are vulnerable to a 'trivial' attack, say security researchers. They found the encryption system used in many car immobilisers can be cracked, potentially letting a thief steal the car. Vehicles made by 26 separate car firms including Volkswagen, Porsche and Honda use the 'weak' security system. The researchers first released their findings two years ago but legal action prevented publication.
  • Prana: Lighting Exhibit That Breathes with You - I have no idea what purpose it serves but it's still kinda neat :-)
  • Watch NASA Test-Fire The Rocket Engine Of The Future - Here's footage of NASA conducting the sixth, of seven, test-firings of the RS-25 engine. Four RS-25s will power NASA's next-generation Space Launch System - the spacecraft that will, hopefully, bring humanity to Mars.
  • Go Inside The Cockpit Of A WWII Era P-51 Mustang - The chances of you ever really flying in a vintage plane like this are practically none, so strap in and enjoy the ride. Bonus points: there's a F-22 Raptor flying alongside.
  • M5 Satan Tank in Action! - Here is a super rare recreation of the infamous Satan Tank. Only 27 were used during the World War II in the pacific theater.
  • The Backwards Brain Bicycle - As part of a joke on the engineers at their work, a group of welders developed a bike that functioned like any other bicycle, except for one minor alteration: when the rider turns to the right, the wheel turns to the left, and vice versa. Do you think you'd be able to ride the altered bike?
  • A 'Competitive' Gun Line That Can Shoot Balls At Almost 70mph - Nerf claim in this video that they've been working on their Rival line for over four years. These new guns fire faster and (presumably) more accurately, perhaps as a less messy alternative to paintball.
  • Here's A Trailer For James Dean Biopic 'Life' - The film stars Dane DeHaan as Dean and Robert Pattinson as Life Magazine photographer Dennis Stock, who form an unlikely but symbiotic relationship.

  • Doctor Who Series 9 Trailer - Series 9 arrives on the 19th September and it will be spectacular! Join the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) for a brand new series of Doctor Who.
  • The Hateful Eight - Official Teaser Trailer - The Weinstein Company unveiled the first teaser for The Hateful Eight, an upcoming American western film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. It stars Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Walton Goggins, and Channing Tatum. The Hateful Eight is set to release only in 70mm format on December 25 before being released in digital theaters on January 8, 2016.

  • Fisherman Takes Out Drone - This will teach the nerd not to play with his geeky gadgets near people who want to relax and fish.
  • World Record Free Solo - Insane Slacklining! - On August 2nd 2015 Spencer Seabrooke set out to break the world record for the longest free solo slackline ever. He shattered the previous record by 7 meters!

enter a reboot loop while trying to install the first update

that's what I call proper effup

Windows 10 activation status for a device is stored online

Can't wait for the first emulators to pop up.

Windows 10 God Mode

I have no patience to watch rubbish like this.
Isn't that a flattened list of group policies?

I wonder how many spywares will be installed worldwide (thanks to Microsoft)

The Backwards Brain Bicycle

A toy of the 80s. Are we going backwards?

A 'Competitive' Gun Line That Can Shoot Balls At Almost 70mph

Make one that shoots eggs at politicians

zarlin> I use this for Windows 10 : DoNotInstall 1.0
I use almost the same: StayOn7 x64.

El_Coyote(10:51 AM CEST - Aug,17 2015 )
I ran into the reboot loop problem.

It turned out that the cause was a dummy nvidia useraccount that only existed in the registry. After I deleted that, the update installed fine. Thanks nVidia.

Tom(03:45 PM CEST - Aug,17 2015 )
Just like at work, my home PC has been perfectly fine since switching to Win10. I also didn't waste my time right away, after switching I updated my video drivers to a Win10 certified driver and forced updates on other drivers and software, like Firefox. Creative Labs as usual has no drivers but the system still seems to be using my older Win7 drivers.

EDIT: As a matter of fact, likely going to chuck my creative card anyway, useless hunk of shit anyway. Onboard audio is better supported and less overhead.

Csimbi(07:54 PM CEST - Aug,17 2015 )
Yeah, nowadays the onboard audio is decent.
I don't like the hiss they add though, so I got a mobo with a creative chip onboard.
